Today’s decorative egg shaped cactuses are a BREEZE to make! We are talking simple supplies and steps to bring to life some potted cactus plants that won’t need water, light or even a second thought afterwards! Plus it’s PRICK-FREE!
Easter Egg Cactus Craft
Recently I was inspired by my own cactus plant in my home, to design my latest “potted cactus plants made from paper mache Easter eggs” and share with you all the tutorial today. When I first started envisioning this, I imagined that your finished cactus plants could be placed throughout your home as easy “spring themed” decor with ease. I think that’s pretty awesome right there!
And of course – all of the craft supplies that I used for mine, were found at my local Michaels store. From the decorative and paintable eggs, to the itty bitty terra cotta posts – it was one-stop-shop.
I would say, one paper mache egg cactus pot friend cost me maybe $1 each to make {that’s if you have the cardstock paper, green craft paint and adhesive on hand.}
Surprisingly those little clay pots were only .50 cents each and a pack of 12 decorative eggs was around $4 {in the Easter craft aisle} Overall – I say this is a very cheap craft! Especially if you want to have a craft night with the girls and everyone makes their own cactus egg friend together.
If this is something that you would like to recreate today, whether as an adult or with a child, you can find ALL the crafty details below! I sure hope you inspired by our quick tutorial! Happy crafting, my dear friends! #gluedtomycrafts
PAIR OUR CRAFT IDEA WITH —> Carrot Egg Decor
Craft Supplies:
- You will need the decorative paper Easter eggs, green craft paint, paint brush, large paper plate, cardstock paper, scissors, black Sharpie marker, hot glue gun and mini terra cotta pots.
Directions:
- Start off my painting your paper mache eggs completely green. My best suggestion is to hold the egg in your hand and just paint it. It’s going to get messy but that’s ok. My next suggestion is, once the egg is painted, lay it gently on a paper plate to dry. Once it dry, add more paint to touch it up.
- Now grab your black Sharpie marker. Make “x’s” all over the painted egg to represent the “pricks” of the cactus.
- At this point in time, take note on how your egg will fit inside the terra cotta pot {the direction of it} Set aside.
- Next grab your cardstock paper and scissors. Cut out TWO arms for each cactus friend. Again – use your black Sharpie marker to add pricks all over. At this point in time, you can also trim out some sunglasses for your cactus friend.
- Now for the assemble part! Get the glue gun hot and ready. Fold your green cardstock arms slightly for easy attaching to the craft egg. Hot glue them in place, as well as the sunglasses. Add other embellishments you see fit.
- Then place inside your terra cotta pot and admire your hard work! That’s it!
- Display it proudly for all to see!
