Today’s decorative craft egg cactus friends are a BREEZE to make! We are talking simple supplies and steps to bring to life some plants that won’t need water, light or even a second thought afterwards! Plus it’s PRICK-FREE!
Easy to make – just how we like it on Glued To My Crafts! #gluedtomycrafts
I was inspired by my recent Craft Foam Egg Cactus Friend post and thought a more 3D and adult-friendly version would be awesome. Plus these can be placed throughout your home as easy “spring themed” decor with ease.
Of course – all my supplies were found at my local Michaels store. From the decorative and paintable eggs, to the itty bitty terra cotta posts – it was one-stop-shop.
I would say, one cactus pot friend cost me maybe $1 each to make {that’s if you have the cardstock, green craft paint and adhesive on hand.}
Surprisingly those little clay pots were only .50 cents each and a pack of 12 decorative eggs was around $4 {in the Easter craft aisle} Overall – I say this is a very cheap craft! Especially if you want to have a craft night with the girls and everyone makes their own cactus egg friend together.
So onto the tutorial!
The SUPPLIES:
You will need the decorative Easter eggs {Michaels} green craft paint, paint brush, large paper plate, colored cardstock, scissors, black Sharpie marker, hot glue gun and mini terra cotta pots.
The Directions:
Start off my painting your eggs completely green. My best suggestion is to hold the egg in your hand and just paint it. It’s going to get messy but that’s ok. My next suggestion is, once the egg is painted, lay it gently on a paper plate to dry. Once it dry, add more paint to touch it up.
Now grab your black Sharpie marker. Make “x’s” all over the painted egg to represent the “pricks” of the cactus.
At this point in time, take note on how your egg will fit inside the terra cotta pot {the direction of it} Set aside.
Next grab your cardstock. Cut out TWO arms for each cactus friend. Again – use your black SHarpie marker to add pricks all over. At this point in time, you can also trim out some sunglasses for your cactus friend.
Now for the assemble part! Get the glue gun hot and ready. Fold your green cardstock arms slightly for easy attaching to the craft egg. Hot glue them in place, as well as the sunglasses. Add other embellishments you see fit.
Then place inside your terra cotta pot and admire your hard work! That’s it!
