This fun and easy paper handprint chicken puppet craft is perfect for kids of all ages. It’s a great way to teach them about farm animals!

Craft Supplies:

  • Cardstock Paper
  • Pencil or Pen
  • Paper Craft Scissors
  • Loose Craft Feathers
  • School Glue
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Large Wavy Craft Stick
  • Chicken Printable – on our spring landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper

You can find ALL our favorite craft supplies via our AMAZON SHOP link!

Directions:

  • First things first – pick a hand! Any hand will do!
  • Grab the pencil and colored cardstock.
  • Instruct your child to lay their hand completely flat on the paper.
  • Go ahead and use the pencil to trace your child’s hand {one handprint per chicken puppet} on the cardstock paper.
  • Now use the scissors to trim out the traced design.
  • Up next – the fun part. THE DECORATING! Have children decorate their handprint cutout however they want. We did a ton of feathers and loose craft glitter on ours but children can use whatever they like to make it stand out from the crowd! Remember – chickens come in various colors!
  • While your child is working on that, go ahead and print out the provided chicken head file, listed above in the supply list. One printout will give your FOUR opportunities to do this craft.
  • When your child ready, have them color in ONE of the heads from the printable, with their choice of craft medium and colors.
  • After they are done coloring, cut out the head design.
  • Save the others for later.
  • We are at the final steps now! Grab your wavy craft stick, the decorated head piece and feather covered handprint.
  • Go ahead and start off by gluing the handprint cutout to one end of the wood craft stick.
  • Follow that up with the head on top of everything.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit {maybe some more glitter or a small decorative bow!}
  • Then let the finished chicken puppet dry completely, in an undisturbed area, before displaying/playing with proudly!
  • Repeat the above steps over and over again to make a whole bunch of peacock puppets!
  • Don’t forget to snap a few pictures of your child’s finished paper handprint chicken puppet creations with us on your various social media sites! #gluedtomycrafts

Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible.
