Three Christmas puppets made from paper and craft sticks: a handprint reindeer, a handprint Christmas tree with decorations, and a handprint Santa with a cotton ball beard, all set on a blue background with stars.

These craft stick handprint puppets are a fun and easy way to get into the Christmas spirit! Your kids will love making them.

Craft Supplies:

  • Cardstock Paper {red for Santa, brown for a reindeer, green for a tree}
  • Pen/Marker
  • Scissors
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks
  • Cotton Balls – for the Santa puppet
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First trace your child’s hands on the cardstock paper.
  • Repeat for each puppet you want to make {you need one handprint cutout per Christmas puppet – red for Santa, brown for a reindeer, green for a tree}
  • Trim out the drawn handprint design out with scissors.
  • Now it’s time for the embellishments! For the Santa – add a cotton ball beard on the fingertips. For the tree – add sequins all over. And for the reindeer – add cardstock antlers to the thumb.
  • To finish off the Handprint Christmas Puppets – glue your jumbo popsicle sticks to the back of each pieces to make it easy for puppet play.
  • Then set it all aside to let it dry completely before the show!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
