Paper Plate Gingerbread House

This gingerbread house is made out of paper plates and is perfect for kids! It’s a great craft idea that will keep the little ones busy during the holiday season.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • Fairy House Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • Brown Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Black Marker
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • White Cotton Balls
  • School Glue
  • Stapler
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First things first – cut off a small section of your large paper plate to make the bottom of the gingerbread house flat.
  • Discard the small piece you just cut off.
  • Next up – paint the paper plate completely tan {or any other color you like!}
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Now download and print the FREE Christmas fairy house printout listed above in the supply list.
  • Print it out the file in color on white cardstock. You only need to print one per craft.
  • Using scissors, trim out each section in the printable you just printed.
  • Now decide which windows you are going to use for your craft {you only need two windows.} There are several different versions of fairies in windows OR you can use the provided blank windows & draw whatever you like inside of them {bonus tip – trim out the center of the blank windows and use your child’s pictures to fill the frames!} Set aside your chosen pieces.
  • Next up – grab the dark brown cardstock.
  • Cut out a long rectangular “chimney” for the gingerbread house.
  • Draw on the bricks with the black Sharpie marker.
  • Once the paper plate is dry and you have everything cut out that you want to use for your piece, now it’s time to start assembling your Paper Gingerbread Fairy House.
  • Go ahead and glue some cotton ball “frosting” in random places on the paper plate.
  • Follow that up with the candy pieces and the doors/windows.
  • Finally, glue/staple the other paper embellishments in place on the paper plate.
  • Now add anything else you like for that custom look {like some holiday stickers or glitter!} before displaying proudly!
  • Don’t forget to snap a few pictures to share with us on your social media sites! #gluedtomycrafts

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
