How to Make Pine Cone Christmas Trees

How to Make Decorative Pine Cone Christmas Trees

Yesterday I shared a kid friendly Paper Plate Christmas Tree craft on Glued To My Crafts. Did you happen to see it?

Well… today I’m continuing on with the holiday tree theme and sharing this Christmas Tree Pine Cones tutorial with you all. Just like my previous post, these pine cones turned Christmas trees are very simple to do on the fly, with your children this holiday break {and maybe prevent you and them from going stir crazy in the house this winter season!}

So let’s back track a little – do you remember last month when I mentioned that we had a family bucket list that I wanted to complete this fall?

One of the items on our to-do list was to go out of town and pick up some “craft” supplies in the woods. Well, we finally completed that particular “task” and picked up a whole bunch of pine cones from a local golf course resort. Completely “free” I might add.

Once we got home and I started playing around with various ideas in my head, on what to do with what we collected, I came up with these Christmas Tree Pine Cones. Just like the previous paper Christmas tree tutorial, this craft also has no real rules to it. You can decorate them as simple or as elaborate as you like! Kinda like decorating a real tree in your home!

As you can see in our pine cone tree pictures below, we used loose craft glitter, Tulip puffy paint and small pom poms to decorate ours. But honestly, you could use whatever you have on hand, at that moment {no need to rush to the store for this one!} Think dry rice, beans, noodles, white cotton balls, craft paint etc.

Well friends – enough chit chat from me! I’m going to let you get to the full how-to so you can recreate your very own pine cones decorated as Christmas trees. I put together a step-by-step tutorial below to help you get started and all you need to do is keep scrolling to find it. Hopefully you enjoy it and decide to make a whole “farm” of Christmas trees today!

Happy crafting, my dear friends! Please don’t forget to share pictures of your finished Christmas trees made from recycled pine cones on our Facebook page! It seriously makes my day to see them come through our feed! Plus I wanna see how you give them your own custom style with various embellishments! #gluedtomycrafts

How to Make Pine Cone Christmas Trees - Kid Craft Idea For The Holidays

Pine Cone Christmas Trees

These easy Christmas tree decorations are a fun craft for kids of all ages! They’re perfect for decorating your home during the holidays.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • Pine Cones – any size or shape! You only need ONE per tree
  • Tulip Fabric Puffy Paint
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Small Colored Pom Poms

The Directions:

  • Place your pine cone on a large paper plate, so you have a great working surface that you can easily clean afterwards.
  • Squeeze a nice layer of puffy paint {in squiggles and swirls} all over the pine cone. The more paint you add the better it is, so lay it on thick and make it POP!
  • Once the above step is completed, follow that up by sprinkling a good amount of loose craft glitter all over the wet puffy paint you just put down.
  • Now add some small pom poms in between the empty spaces to create the “bulbs” on the tree. At this point in time, you can also add any other embellishments you like as well {I added some foam star cutouts to the top of mine!}
  • When done decorating the pine cones, let your “trees” dry completely before removing from paper plate.
  • Then display them proudly for ALL to see!
