Gingerbread House Ornament

Come check out this super easy popsicle stick gingerbread house ornament craft for Christmas! Perfect for kids of all ages.

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks
  • School Glue
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Paper Craft Scissors
  • Light Pink Tissue Paper
  • Gold Glitter Glue
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Cardstock Paper {brown and white}
  • Markers
  • Ribbon or Twine
  • Holiday Stickers

Directions:

  • First things first – assemble the base of your Christmas house ornament by gluing your nine jumbo popsicle sticks together to look like a square {seven next to each other and two across the back.}
  • Set it aside to let it dry completely.
  • Repeat for each gingerbread house ornament you want to make today.
  • If desired – this is the perfect time to also paint your gingerbread house “if you like.” I just thought the nude sticks looked more like gingerbread so I opted for no paint. Feel free to change things up though!
  • Next up – go ahead and grab your small paper plate & the scissors.
  • Cut the paper plate in half, straight up the center to make TWO equal pieces. Pull one aside for the roof of the craft, while saving the other for later.
  • Next grab your pink tissue paper and the scissors again.
  • Cut out a small amount of squares from it.
  • Go ahead and squiggle a good amount of school glue on the paper plate half.
  • Follow that up by layering the tissue paper squares on top, until it’s completely covered.
  • When done with that, it’s time to glue the decorated “roof” to the popsicle stick shape and really make the house come together.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Gingerbread House, you are going to add ALL the embellishments that make a house a home.
  • Use the gold glitter glue and loose craft glitter to make “shingles” on the paper plate, while also cutting out two circular windows & a door from the cardstock paper to glue down.
  • The markers will come in handy for adding definition to the doors and windows – FYI.
  • The last bit is to really make it your own by adding holiday candy stickers such as candy canes, gum drops and maybe even tiny gingerbread men stickers if you can find them. This step is where you can really make it shine!
  • Then when done decorating your wood piece, set it all aside to allow it to dry completely before you add string to the back for hanging.
  • And that’s it! Don’t forget to snap a few pictures to share with us! We love seeing your creations come to life! #gluedtomycrafts
