Craft Spoon Superhero Puppets

Mixed Media Foil Wrapped Superhero Puppets - Kid Craft

Craft Spoon Superhero Puppets

Dear friends… I’ve been challenging myself MORE THAN EVER this year, to get even more crafty with Glued To My Crafts. My personal goal is to stand out from my competitors and be “your girl” for all things craft related {at least in the kid craft field!}

So with me working on that goal, I’m trying to think “outside the box” as much as I can. Trying to think of things NO ONE has presented or even thought of! The wheels are CONSTANTLY spinning in my little head.

Anyways – long story short. I spend a good amount of time at Dollar Tree because of it. Not only because it’s easily accessible to me BUT I know you guys also want affordable tutorials. I know how much it sucks when someone on the web presents something awesome and cool but then links to an Amazon link that costs way more than the craft should {I’m guilty of it too!} Crafty fun should NOT break the piggy bank.

So the other day, I was walking the aisles of my local Dollar Tree, when I came across some metallic wrapping paper foil. Considering it was shiny and “pretty” it’s no surprise why it caught my eye. Hence why ALL six colors they had on hand…went into my cart, no questions asked! But honestly – for the size of the tube, one dollar was pretty awesome and I can’t complain about that. No regrets on that purchase at all!

At first I had “Valentine Suckers” stuck in my head because of the holiday season we are in. I had planned on wrapping something with the foil, tying it off, adding some embellishments and presenting it to you all as the latest and greatest kid craft idea. Well – that became an epic fail and I’m still tweaking that idea in my head {maybe more to come soon!}

But not all failures should be shoved away and hidden forever! I turned my failed project idea into superheroes instead by adding some wiggle eyes and a simple cardstock mask.

So you better believe, this long story is how my Mixed Media Foil Wrapped Superhero Puppets came to life {I know it’s a mouthful!} But it’s my hope you also see my vision and that it inspires you and/or your child today! And although I used wooden craft spoons for mine, while you are at Dollar Tree, you can also grab a bag of plastic spoons for this DIY idea instead! Hello cheap!!!

Well now that I “talked” your ear off {and thank you for reading this far!} please check out the easy tutorial below and get inspired! Then use your newly made superhero capped creations as decorations and/or pretend play pieces!

Happy crafting, my friends!! Don’t forget to share pictures of your super hero friends! You can tag us on Facebook or Instagram for easy sharing! I can’t wait to see how awesome your foil gift wrap superhero puppets turned out! #gluedtomycrafts

Mixed Media Foil Wrapped Superhero Puppets - Kid Craft

Today’s easy craft idea for kids will get them excited about being creative with everyday materials. With just a few craft supplies, your little one can make a superhero puppet to take home!

Craft Supplies:

  • Shiny Metallic Wrapping Paper Foil {Dollar Tree}
  • Wooden or Plastic Spoons – one per superhero craft
  • Basic Craft Scissors
  • Twine or Thin Ribbon
  • Colored Cardstock Paper
  • Small Wiggle Eyes – two per superhero craft
  • Glue Dots or Hot Glue Gun
  • Sharpie Markers

Directions:

  • First things first – cut your wrapping paper into a 4×4 inch square. It doesn’t need to be straight or perfect either!
  • Now cut a long piece of twine. You will want one gift wrap square, one piece of twine and one spoon per craft.
  • Go ahead and “bunch” your wrapping paper around the circular part of the spoon & tie it off tightly with a piece of twine. This will be the superhero’s body with a wrapping paper mask and cape. Set aside.
  • Grab your cardstock and scissors. Cut out a simple mask for your superhero, as well as a circle for the chest.
  • Using the glue dots, adhere your wiggle eyes to the mask.
  • Draw an “S” on your circle and attach it to your wooden spoon with a glue dot.
  • Finally – use another glue dot to attach the finished mask piece to the spoon. Add other embellishments you see fit.
  • Then display/play with your foiled wrapped and craft spoon superhero puppets proudly for all to see!
