Chalk Art Patriotic Shooting Star

We’ve done it again! Our chalk art tutorials have remained super popular these days, so it only seems fitting that I come with a NEW idea to share with you all today!

This time for the upcoming summer months and 4th July holiday. I call it “patriotic chalk art” but honestly when I first starting brainstorming it, I instantly started thinking of fireworks popping out from the paper with vibrant chalk colors.

With that being said, our super fun and colorful DIY star firework design craft is going to be rather inexpensive to recreate. All you need is a few pieces of chalk, dark colored construction paper and our free patriotic star printable listed below. That’s it! I could even see this idea being done easily with a large crowd at a slumber party, at summer camp and even at a 4th of July BBQ. Even adults can participate in this one too!

So what are we waiting for?! All the details and the free star shape printable can be found below. Don’t let this crafty abstract idea slip away. Bookmark it now and later this week, make some colorful “one-of-a-kind” chalk art shooting firework stars with the kids & then show off those creations, with pride, with us! We love seeing those pics so tag us on Facebook or add #gluedtomycrafts in the description!

Happy crafting, my dear friends! I can’t wait to see your paper patriotic star creations pop from the paper!

This festive display is a perfect example of patriotic chalk art.

Show your patriotic pride with this easy and fun chalk star art craft! Just grab some paper and sidewalk chalk to recreate it!

Craft Supplies:

  • Star Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Crayons, Pencils, Markers etc.
  • Scissors
  • Black Construction Paper
  • Sidewalk Chalk
  • Baby Wipes
  • Adhesive

Directions:

  • First things first – grab our free star shape printable, listed above in the supply list.
  • Next, go ahead and find it on your computer, right click and print the file on a single sheet of white cardstock paper. One print will give you ONE star shape. Print as many as you like but only use our file for personal use only please.
  • Now that you have the printable, go ahead and color in the “star” design on the paper, in a patriotic color scheme. Feel free to make it as elaborate as you like!
  • When done coloring in the star, use your craft scissors to trim it out from the paper.
  • Discard excess paper.
  • Now grab a single sheet of black colored cardstock and your various pieces of colored chalk.
  • Starting in the center of the paper, make several lines going OUT, like a starburst or sun design. Add as many lines and colors as you like to make that “firework” look.
  • When done with the chalk, use baby wipes to clean off excess chalk from fingers and hands.
  • Now grab your star cutout from earlier and your choice of adhesive.
  • Secure you decorated paper star piece in the center the chalk design, so it looks like a firework is shooting out of the paper.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit {maybe some glitter or small rhinestone stickers!}
  • Then display your custom one-of-a-kind paper and chalk firework star piece proudly for all to see!
  • Don’t forget to share pictures with us on your social media sites! #gluedtomycrafts

Customize It:

  • Instead of printing the free star file on a simple sheet of white cardstock, swap it out for colored paper instead and take out the “coloring in” step listed above.
  • Don’t feel limited by my choice of colors that I used as an example in this tutorial. Experiment with different colors of paper and chalk, to see what really makes your star POP from the page. Remember – this idea is also great for New Year’s or any other type of celebration you might have in mind!
  • On that note, did you know you can dip your chalk in water to make the colors more vibrant on your paper? Yup! Just set a small dish with tap water on the table, dip the chalk in it for a few seconds and then draw on the paper the same way as before.
  • Don’t have a printer? No worries my friends! Just hand-draw and cut out a simple “star” shape from some basic construction paper, instead!

Pair It With:

  • Popsicle Stick Uncle Sam
  • Button Flag Picture Frame
  • Paper Plate American Flag
  • Handprint Flag Shirt
  • Popsicle Stick Patriotic Gnome
  • Paper Plate Uncle Sam
  • Paper Bag Uncle Sam Gnome
  • Footprint Firework Keepsake
