Paper Plate Uncle Sam w/Handprint Beard - Kid Craft Idea

It’s time to get crafty! Round up your supplies, put on your most creative hat and dive into the patriotic spirit with this fun and easy paper plate Uncle Sam craft. Let’s get making!

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • Skin Tone Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Hat Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Red Washi Tape
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick or School Glue
  • Stapler
  • Large Wiggle Eyes

Directions:

  • First things first – paint your large paper plate with the skin tone craft paint. Simply squirt some craft paint in the center of the plate and move it around with the paint brush.
  • When done painting the paper plate, set it aside to let it dry completely.
  • Next up – print the free “hat rim” template above, in color, on a simple sheet of white cardstock. Print ONE per Uncle Sam craft.
  • Trim out the blue star design and discard the excess paper.
  • Next grab your second sheet of white cardstock paper.
  • Fold it in half and cut along the folded line.
  • Take one piece of white cardstock paper for today’s craft and save the other for a rainy day.
  • Now grab the red washi tape. Tear off long stripes of washi tape and place them on the white cardstock, in straight lines to create the stripes in Uncle Sam’s hat.
  • Grab the blue paper piece from earlier and staple it to the washi tape covered piece to make his hat. Set aside.
  • Now grab the last piece of white cardstock paper and your pencil.
  • Trace both of your hands on the paper and cut out both traced designs. This is his beard.
  • Out of the remaining tan cardstock, cut out a small oval shaped nose.
  • Now you are ready to start assembling! Start off by stapling the hat piece to the painted paper plate.
  • Follow that up with the handprint beard, then the nose and finally gluing on the wiggle eyes.
  • And that’s it! Add other embellishments you see fit {like maybe some fun star stickers or glitter} and display proudly for all to see!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
