Paint Splat Firework Craft for Kids – Fun 4th of July Idea!

Whether you’re looking to fill a summer afternoon or kick off a 4th of July celebration with something creative, the paint splat firework craft is sure to delight your kids and leave your living room bursting with “firework displays.”

Craft Supplies:

The beauty of this activity is that it requires minimal supplies, most of which you may already have lying around your art stash. Here’s your shopping list for this fun project:

  • Firework Printable – on box.com
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Gray or Black Cardstock Paper
  • Crayons, Coloring Pencils or Markers
  • Scissors
  • Red, Blue and White Tulip Puffy Paint
  • School Glue
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Lay down some newspaper, an old sheet, or a plastic tablecloth to keep clean-up simple. Make sure each child has plenty of space to work on their firework masterpiece. Put on those aprons or have the kids change into clothes that can handle a little paint spill.

  • Begin by printing the free FIREWORK printable (linked above) onto a single sheet of white cardstock.
  • Carefully color in the two firework designs and cut them out. Set these aside for now.
  • Next, take a sheet of black or gray cardstock and fold it in half (either direction works).
  • Unfold the cardstock and add a few squiggles of red, white, and blue fabric paint to one side of the paper. Be sure to keep the paint away from the edges, and remember—less is more!
  • Fold the paper back together, gently pressing and rubbing your hand over the surface to spread the paint evenly inside. This will create a symmetrical “splatter” effect.
  • Carefully unfold the paper to reveal your vibrant “firework sky” design.
  • If you’d like, sprinkle loose craft glitter onto the wet paint for an extra sparkle.
  • To complete your 4th of July Firework Craft, glue one or both of the firework cutouts onto the painted design.
  • Add any additional embellishments you want to make your artwork pop.
  • Once finished, set your creation aside to dry completely before displaying it proudly.
