Get ready to add a burst of color to your New Year’s Eve celebration with a fun and simple craft for the whole family! This torn paper firework craft is the perfect way for kids of all ages to get creative while waiting for the clock to strike midnight. It’s a wonderful, hands-on activity that captures the excitement of the sparkling fireworks that light up the night sky.

We’ve made this project especially easy for little hands by including a free printable template. You just need some colorful paper, glue, and your imagination to create a vibrant firework display. Let’s gather our supplies and make some beautiful art to welcome the new year!

Craft Supplies:

Before we dive into the steps, gather these simple supplies:

  • Construction Paper {black and three other color choices}
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • New Year’s Firework Printable – on our landing page
  • Crayons, Markers or Coloring Pencils
  • Craft Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Now that your materials are ready, it’s time to make your firework sparkle. Follow these easy steps and enjoy watching your kids’ creativity bloom.

  • Start by downloading and printing the FREE “New Year’s Eve Firework” printable (linked above) onto a sheet of white cardstock. Each printable includes two sets to make double the fun!
  • Let kids color one of the star shapes and the matching “Happy New Year” text from the printable. Once they’re finished, carefully cut out these pieces. Younger children might need help with the cutting.
  • Now for the fun part! Take your colorful construction paper (not the black sheet yet) and tear it into long, thin strips and small pieces. The sizes don’t need to be perfect – having variety makes each firework unique. Gather your piles of torn paper and get ready to design!
  • Take your black construction paper and use glue sticks or liquid glue to draw lines radiating out from where you want the center of your firework to be, just like firework bursts in the sky.
  • Place your torn paper pieces along the glue lines. Mix up colors or make patterns if you want! Gently press each strip or piece down, layering until you’ve built up bright, colorful firework explosions.
  • Once your firework design is complete, glue the colored star shape and the “Happy New Year” text cutout right in the center of your firework burst.
  • Allow your “torn paper firework” masterpiece to dry completely. Show off your finished artwork by displaying it on the fridge, a bulletin board, or a window for family and friends to admire!

Now it’s time to show off your beautiful creation! Hang it on the wall, place it on the fridge, or find a special spot where everyone can admire your hard work. We would love to see how your fireworks turned out. Feel free to share a picture of your masterpiece with friends, family, or on social media to spread the festive cheer.
