Calling all my crafty moms and teachers!!! To celebrate one of my personal FAVORITE childhood books growing up – today I’m sharing another kid friendly craft that is perfect to tie a theme together and keep the little ones busy after story time.

Just like ALL our kid friendly crafts & tutorials on the blog – this Paper Plate Spider activity is super simple, fun for all ages and really inexpensive too! Did I mention it also goes along perfectly with the book The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle?! Yup! That means you can pair our crafty spider idea with a little story time as well!

Eric Carle Paper Plate Spider Craft

Spice up your afternoon with a creative project! Make this Eric Carle-inspired paper plate spider craft – it’ll be a great addition to any story time event!

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate – 1 per craft
  • Tissue Paper
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • School Glue
  • Scissors
  • Stapler

Directions:

  • First cut your red and black tissue paper into small squares.
  • Take your paper plate and put a good amount of glue all over it.
  • Have children place the tissue paper on top of the glue, until the paper plate is completely covered.
  • When they are done with that, set it aside to let it dry completely while you trim out the other spider features from your cardstock {use the book cover as a good guide on what to cut out & how}
  • To finish off the Paper Plate Spider kid craft – simply staple the finished cardstock pieces in their designated spots.
  • Then display it proudly for all to see!

Another fun activity that goes along perfectly with this Eric Carle book, is a Spider Web Sensory Bin. For this, simply cut up some white yarn and place it in a bin with some plastic spiders. Then let kids explore, as they themselves stay “busy.”
