I’m calling ALL my Eric Carle fans and readers!!! Today I’m sharing a kid friendly and fuzzy Pipe Cleaner and Wooden Clothespin Caterpillar kid craft idea that goes along PERFECTLY with the beloved book “The Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle {affiliate link on Amazon}

So without ado – grab those craft supplies, follow our full caterpillar craft tutorial below and get ready to make some own one-of-a-kind pipe cleaner and clothespin caterpillar pieces with your child today!

Then sit down for some story time afterwards and make memories that will last forever! Remember – because you are using pipe cleaners for the body, these super fun caterpillar puppets will have a fun touch & feel element to it as well!

Pipe Cleaner & Clothespin Caterpillar - Kid Craft Idea

This fuzzy clothespin caterpillar craft tutorial is perfect for spring time fun! Kids will love making this bug craft during story time!

Craft Supplies:

  • Flat Wooden Clothespins – 1 per caterpillar
  • Green Pipe Cleaners
  • Thick Glue or Hot Glue Gun
  • Red Craft Paint
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Small Wiggle Eyes
  • Tan Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors

Directions:

  • First have children paint their flat clothespin completely red.
  • Repeat for each caterpillar you want to make. Set aside.
  • Next grab your pipe cleaners {two per craft} and cut them into 1″ inch pieces.
  • Grab your glue, pipe cleaner pieces and clothespin.
  • Make a line of glue on the thinner end of the clothespin {see picture for example} and lay your pipe cleaner pieces on top.
  • Finish off your Clothespin Caterpillar Puppet craft by gluing on wiggle eyes and cardstock antennas to the back.
  • Then carefully place in an undisturbed area to let it dry completely before displaying/playing with proudly!

This craft is perfect for Spring time! Kids will love making this Pipe Cleaner & Clothespin Caterpillar.

Here’s your checklist of supplies to bring this craft to life:

  • 1 Flat Wooden Clothespins
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Craft Paint
  • 2 Small Wiggle Eyes
  • Hot Glue Gun - adult supervision required
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Scissors

Prepare your creative haven by laying down a protective cover before the crafting magic begins!

Directions:
