Cupcake Liner Caterpillar - Craft Idea For The Very Hungry Caterpillar Book

Try this fun and easy caterpillar craft with your kids today! They’ll love creating their own colorful critters out of cupcake liners!

Craft Supplies:

  • White or Green Cardstock Paper
  • Leaf Printable – on our landing page
  • Mini Cupcake Liners
  • Glue Stick
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Sharpie Marker
  • Single Hole Paper Punch

You can find ALL our favorite craft supplies via our AMAZON SHOP link!

Directions:

  • First things first – download and print the provided file in the supply list above. You only need ONE print per caterpillar craft.
  • If you print the file on green cardstock paper, there is no need to color it. However, if you print it on white cardstock paper, go ahead and color in the leaf design however you like!
  • Next up – grab FOUR mini cupcake liners. These can be ANY color or pattern you like, however I suggest making the head a different color so it stands out.
  • Flatten each one of your muffin cup liners out with your hands.
  • Now glue them in a line {doesn’t even need to be straight} on the leaf design on your printout.
  • Once those are secured in place, it’s time to give the cupcake liners the look of a caterpillar! Grab your scrap piece of cardstock paper and scissors.
  • Cut out some small antennas for the caterpillar.
  • Glue those onto what will be the head of the caterpillar.
  • Now grab your wiggle eyes and glue those in place on the same cupcake liner.
  • Use the Sharpie marker to draw on a smile right under that.
  • The last step, which is actually optional, is to hole punch a few holes along the edge of the craft to give the look that the caterpillar is eating it.
  • And that’s it! Display your cupcake liner caterpillar piece proudly for ALL to see!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
