Potato Stamped Bear Cards {Kid Craft}

Brown Bear Cards Made A Potato Stamp

Hi friends! Welcome to another unique kid craft tutorial on Glued To My Crafts! I’m so glad you landed on today’s post!

One of my personal goals before we move this summer to England, is to really step outside of my comfort zone and try a few different techniques, when it comes to our kid craft ideas, that I share on this very website!

I’ve been trying to think outside the box and use up materials that I can’t exactly take with us on our big move but they still make for great tutorials.

My goal is to turn this into a positive way to clean up my stash and use this move as the perfect excuse to do crafts on a simple {maybe non-existent} budget & with attainable items everyone has in their reach. It’s a win-win for everyone and I sure hope you are inspired!!!

On that note, today I present you our Potato Stamped Bear Cards tutorial. It’s super simple for anyone to recreate, customizable and BEARY CUTE! Plus the handmade stamps {aka potatoes} in this tutorial, are fairly easy for everyone to pick up at their local grocery store AND they are pretty inexpensive too. Not to mention, these handmade cards are perfect for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or even Grandparent’s Day.

So if by chance you are planning on cooking some potatoes tonight for your dinner {or you have a few that are able to spoil} you are well on your way to pulling this together!

Now don’t delay – check out the full tutorial below and grab those craft supplies listed, so you can get to work on making some awesome handmade cards with your child today! Then send the beautiful cards to friends and family to continue the smiles these cards can bring!

Happy “stamping” my friends and don’t forget to share pictures of your handmade bear cards with us on our Facebook page! I can’t wait to see our BEARY good they turn out! #gluedtomycrafts

Potato Stamped Bear Cards {Kid Craft}

Get creative with your little ones this weekend and make some adorable potato stamped bear cards! Making art together is a great way to bond while having fun.

Craft Supplies:

  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Adhesive
  • Pre-Folded Cardstock Card
  • Scissors
  • 1 – Large sized Raw Potato
  • Knife – adult supervision ALWAYS!
  • Brown Craft Paint
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Large Wiggle Eyes
  • Black Sharpie Marker

Directions:

  • First things first – if you haven’t made your card yet, go ahead and do that. I made mine a basic square shape but yours can be any shape or size you like!
  • Go ahead and also cut out a piece of white cardstock, that will fit to the front of your card. This is where we will be making our stamped bear design on.
  • Secure the white cardstock piece to the front of the card with a glue stick.
  • Now grab your potato and knife.
  • Cut your potato in half. You only need ONE potato half for your craft. This is your stamp for the bear’s head.
  • Squirt some brown craft paint on your paper plate.
  • Rub your potato half in the brown paint, until it’s completely covered.
  • Next take the potato half and stamp it in the center of the white cardstock.
  • Lift up the potato half and set it on the paper plate.
  • Set aside the card to allow it to dry completely.
  • Now grab your brown cardstock paper and scissors.
  • Cut out two half circle ears and an oval nose piece for the bear.
  • Use the Sharpie marker to draw on a nose/mouth on the oval shape.
  • When the stamped design from earlier is dry enough, go ahead and grab it, along with the glue stick.
  • Secure the paper pieces to the stamped design.
  • Add on the wiggle eyes.
  • To finish off the potato stamped bear card, use the Sharpie marker to write a clever message like “love you beary much” to the front of the card, as well as anything else you like inside.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit, before gifting away your stamped potato bear card proudly!
  • Discard the used potato afterwards {please do not attempt to eat it afterwards.}
  • Don’t forget to share pictures with us on your social media sites! #gluedtomycrafts

Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
