Potato Stamped Mouse Card Craft

Potato Stamped Mouse Card - Kid Craft Idea

Mouse Card Made With A Raw Potato As A Stamp

Hi my crafty readers! Welcome to another creative kid craft tutorial on our website!

A few weeks ago I mentioned on Glued To My Crafts, that with the new year, I really want to try different techniques and mediums when it comes to my kid craft tutorials. It’s actually one of my BIGGEST goals for 2015.

Moving forward on this goal of mine, I’ve been trying really hard to think of creative craft ideas that are outside the box but can also be done on a simple budget and with items that are within everyone’s reach. I want to share unique ideas with you all but in the same breath, I also don’t you you to go crazy looking for the supplies to recreate them either.

So that’s what brings me to this latest tutorial of mine! Drum doll PLEASE! Today I present you our Potato Stamped Mouse Card tutorial. It’s a first seen here idea and we really hope you are inspired by it!

Not only are the stamps {aka potatoes} in this kids craft idea super easy for everyone to pick up at their local grocery store BUT they are fairly inexpensive too & ONE POTATO HALF can used several times {over and over again in one sitting} to make a HUGE stack of handmade cards all at once.

So if you are planning on cooking some potatoes tonight for your dinner – you are well on your way to pulling this handmade card idea together in no timer! Just be sure to set one aside for this easy and fun for all ages kid craft. Just follow the simple step by step tutorial below.

Now friends… don’t delay! Go grab those craft supplies and get to work!

Happy “stamping” my friends and don’t forget to show off pictures of your potato stamped mouse friends on our Facebook page!! #gluedtomycrafts

Potato Stamped Mouse Card - Kid Craft Idea

Craft Supplies:

  • White Cardstock Paper {or any color you like!}
  • Pre-Folded Cardstock Card
  • Glue Stick or Tape Runner Adhesive
  • Paper Craft Scissors
  • 1 – Large sized Raw Potato
  • Knife – adult supervision ALWAYS!
  • Gray Craft Paint
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Small Paint Brush
  • Small Wiggle Eyes – two per mouse card
  • Pink Cardstock Paper
  • Thin-Tip Sharpie Marker

Directions:

  • First things first – if you haven’t made your cardstock card yet, go ahead and do that. I made mine a basic square shape but yours can be any shape or size you like!
  • Go ahead and also cut out a piece of white cardstock, that will fit to the front of your card. This is where we will be making our stamped mouse design on.
  • Secure the white cardstock piece to the front of the card with a glue stick.
  • Now grab your large, raw potato and knife.
  • Cut your potato in half. You only need ONE potato half for your craft. This is your new stamp for the mouse friend.
  • Squirt some gray craft paint on your paper plate.
  • Take the potato “stamp” and rub it in the gray craft paint, until it’s completely covered.
  • Now take it and stamp it in the center of your card you made earlier.
  • Lift up your potato from the paper and lay it back down on the paper plate.
  • Now use either a small paint brush with a little bit of gray paint {or your finger} to really quick add two small circular dots for the ears on the potato stamped design.
  • At this point in time, while the paint is still wet, go ahead & lay the wiggle eyes on top so they “dry” in place.
  • Also go ahead and cut out a small nose from the pink cardstock & lay them on top as well.
  • When done with these steps, go ahead and aside the card to allow the paint to dry completely.
  • Repeat the above steps for each card.
  • To finish off the potato stamped mouse card, use the Sharpie marker to draw on a squiggly tail coming from the stamped design.
  • Follow that up by writing “Have A Mice Day” around the mouse design, as well as writing anything you like inside.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit, before gifting away your stamped mouse card proudly!
  • Discard the used potato afterwards {please do not attempt to eat it afterwards.}
  • Don’t forget to share pictures with us on your social media sites! #gluedtomycrafts
