Cute Mouse and Cheese - Paper Kid Craft Idea

Mouse & Cheese Craft Idea

One of my business goals for the new year, is to share MORE kid craft ideas around those holidays people really don’t know about.

You know… the random “days” that show up on social media and have become a “thing” throughout the years. I even bought a special calendar at Walmart for it! So let’s see how this goes!!! {mainly this challenge is for my Instagram account but it will spill over here on the blog as well!}

Yes, we all know about Valentine’s Day, Easter, Christmas etc. but do you know about National Polar Bear Plunge Day, which was yesterday on January 1st? Or National Chocolate Covered Strawberry Day that is tomorrow, on January 3rd? I bet you didn’t!

Well… since today is January 2nd, today is actually Swiss Cheese Day?! YAY for cheese!

And although today’s crafty idea is perfect to make in honor of Swiss Cheese, honestly, our latest paper themed kid craft idea can be done all year long!

So please don’t feel limited by any means! I just thought this was a clever way to introduce the post to you all today! BTW – this craft is also great for story time craft making if you have a good children’s book in mind!

Anyways – enough ramble from me. I have the full supply list and directions below for our Mouse and Cheese paper craft. I’ve even included a free mouse printable to get you started on it with ease! Happy crafting and maybe eating some delicious cheese today, as well!

Paper Mouse and Cheese Kids Craft

Try this easy and fun Paper Mouse and Cheese Kids Craft Idea! Just requires a little bit of printer paper, scissors, and glue!

Craft Supplies:

  • Mouse Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper
  • Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Stapler or School Glue

Directions:

  • First print out the free mouse themed printable on white cardstock. You need one printable per craft.
  • Next grab your crayons and color in the mouse however you like. We went with some pink in the center of the ears and a gray mouse body. You can of course, change that up if you like!
  • Now grab your scissors. Trim out the mouse pieces in the printable. Discard the excess paper. Set aside your mouse pieces.
  • Next up – grab your yellow cardstock and scissors. Since my son and I made this craft together, at the same time, I just cut my yellow cardstock in half {straight up the center!} This way we both got a piece of cheese, from ONE piece of paper.
  • Once we both had a “slice of the cheese” we cut it a bit to look like a triangle shaped wedge of cheese.
  • Then we both took a simple black crayon and drew in circular “holes” to give it even MORE of a look of cheese.
  • Finally – it was time to assemble it all! To finish off your Mouse and Cheese paper craft, simply staple {or glue} your mouse pieces to the cheese. This way it looks like the mouse is holding the cheese in his paws.
  • When done, display proudly!

Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible.
