Potato Stamp & Handprint Turkey Craft Idea For Kids

Gobble Gobble! It’s time for another Thanksgiving themed kid craft and this one is PERFECT keep the little ones busy during your family celebrations & festivities!!!

Not only are the stamps {aka potatoes} in this Potato Stamped Turkey tutorial super easy for anyone to pick up at their local grocery store BUT they are fairly inexpensive too {especially if you are planning on cooking some potatoes for your Thanksgiving celebrations!} Just be sure to set one aside for your activity and keep in mind it makes a great keepsake too!

So don’t delay – grab those craft supplies, check out the tutorial below and get to work on making your own custom turkey art pieces, right along side with your child!

Potato Stamped Turkey Handprints - Kid Craft

This fun potato stamped turkey craft will get your child’s creativity flowing and bring some smiles to your dinner table.

Craft Supplies:

  • Orange Cardstock Paper
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper
  • Orange Cardstock Paper
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • Basic Paper Scissors
  • Black Sharpie Marker
  • Knife/Potato {adult supervision please!}
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Brown Craft Paint
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Small Wiggle Eyes

Directions:

  • First trace and cut out your child’s handprint out of the yellow cardstock paper.
  • Repeat for how many turkeys you want to make today.
  • Next grab your potato and cut it in half. Straight down the center to make TWO equal halves. Save one half for today’s craft and the other for our Potato Stamped Reindeer Card tutorial.
  • Now squirt some of your brown craft paint on the paper plate.
  • Have children dip one half of the potato into the brown paint {smear it around} then stamp it in the palm of the handprint cutout from the first step.
  • Repeat for each piece.
  • To finish off the Potato Stamped Turkey, have children cut out some facial features and legs from cardstock paper for the turkey.
  • Glue those onto the potato stamped piece.
  • Follow that up with some wiggle eyes so he can see.
  • Then set it all aside to let it dry completely, before displaying proudly!
