Turkey Friend Made From Popsicle Sticks

Most people think of Thanksgiving as a time to feast on turkey and all the fixings. But for kids, it can be a long day spent sitting at the kids table while the adults chat.

So on that note, to keep the little ones busy and entertained during your Thanksgiving gatherings, why not let them make a fun turkey themed kids craft? Our craft stick turkey friend idea even has “handprint feathers” in one of the steps, so it doubles as a memorable keepsake as well!

And since many of the materials we used in this popsicle stick turkey friend idea came from things already in our craft stock pile, there really is no excuse! This means NO running around like a maniac looking for supplies because you probably have them all in your stash right now {because we all know it gets a little chaotic around the holidays and you don’t need another trip to the store for something small!}

So friends – keep scrolling because I’ll be showing YOU how simple it is to pull this turkey craft together for your thanksgiving celebrations! Your kiddos are going to love playing with their new thanksgiving puppet friend, and you’ll love how easy it was to make!

Popsicle Stick Turkey Friend - Kid Craft

Made with simple craft supplies that you probably already have on hand, this cute puppet is perfect for entertaining the little ones during holiday gatherings!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
  • White School Glue
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper
  • Orange Cardstock Paper
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • Yellow Scrapbook Paper
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Pencil or Marker

Directions:

  • First grab three popsicle sticks {three per turkey} and glue them together to look like a triangle.
  • Set the shape aside to let it dry completely.
  • Repeat for each turkey you want to make.
  • While that is drying, grab your scrapbook paper and cut a triangular shape that will be placed within the popsicle stick triangle design & be the body of the turkey.
  • Go ahead and also trace your hand THREE times on THREE different colors of cardstock paper.
  • Trim out each traced handprint.
  • If desired – decorate them with some embellishments.
  • At this time, you should also cut out a small circle for the head, some long legs and a triangular nose out of the remaining cardstock paper.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Turkey Friend – go ahead and glue the various paper pieces and handprint “feathers” in place on the popsicle stick shape.
  • Once done, add other embellishments you see fit and set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly!
