Whether you’re a parent looking for a quick family activity, a teacher planning a classroom project, or a grandparent wanting a fun way to engage with the little ones, handprint turkey cards are a winning choice.

This post will guide you through step-by-step instructions, smart tips, and creative ideas for making these festive cards. Plus, we’ll talk about ways to customize them to make your turkey truly unique!

Handprint Turkey Cards For Thanksgiving

Now for the direction you take this DIY handprint turkey card craft is totally up to you. We turned our painted turkey prints into cards but you don’t necessarily have to. If you like – you can make your painted turkeys on a canvas or paper to frame and/or gift. Be creative and just let those juices flow!!!

Craft Supplies:

Before pulling out the art supplies, make sure you have all the materials you’ll need on hand. Here’s your checklist:

  • Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors or Paper Trimmer
  • Washable Craft Paints
  • Paint Brushes
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Sharpie Markers
  • Baby Wipes
  • Small Wiggle Eyes
  • School Glue and/or a Glue Stick
  • Embellishments

Directions:

Once you’ve gathered your supplies, you’re ready to start creating!

  • If you are going to make cards – first cut and fold your cardstock for the cards.
  • Set aside a cut piece for your handprint.
  • Paint your child’s handprint and press onto the set aside piece of cardstock. Let dry completely.
  • Remove excess paint from their hands with baby wipes and a quick trip to the sink.
  • Once your child’s handprints are dry – add the turkey embellishments. The thumb is the head of the turkey – while the other fingers are the feathers.
  • Glue on the wiggle eyes and paint on the additional parts. Don’t forget the legs!
  • Once done – glue your card together and add your sentiments to give it that handmade look!
  • Write a sweet message inside and have children sign it as well.
  • Then gift your child’s handprint turkey card away to the lucky receiver!

One of the best parts about handprint turkey cards is how much joy they bring to recipients. Encourage your kids to hand these out to family members, friends, teachers, or even neighbors. They could also include the cards as part of their Thanksgiving meal place settings or attach them to gift packages.

Card Message Ideas:

Help the child write a special Thanksgiving message inside the card. Here are a few ideas for inspiration:

  • “Thankful for You!”
  • “Gobble Gobble! Happy Thanksgiving!”
  • “Hope Your Day Is Filled with Joy and Gratitude!”

Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible.
