Get creative with your kids and make some fun wacky birds using paint, paper and their little hands – it’s the perfect way to keep them entertained!

Footprint & Handprint Birds With Craft Feathers

Today’s blog post is a kid friendly craft idea and I titled it Footprint & Handprint Wacky Birds. It’s got a few of my FAVORITE things to share on Glued To My Crafts mixed together!

Let me start off with a confession. This craft was originally intended to be handprint and footprint “turkeys” for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

My confession is that this turned out to be an epic fail on my part.

Somehow my version slipped through the cracks and it didn’t turn out how I envisioned. Maybe I’m being too much of a perfectionist or too hard on myself, but I didn’t like how things were looking.

After trying to fix and primp them into looking like turkeys- they turned into Wacky Birds. Which honestly – is fine. That just leaves the door open for everyone to do this craft all year long AND put this together with no rules. If yours look like turkeys – go you! I envy you. {I really do!} But if they don’t, that is fine too.

With a little imagination – your child can make their own Footprint & Handprint Wacky Birds and not have the “turkey” guilt I did. With some trials and tribulations, we all get the hang of it 😉 I’m no Martha, editor of Vogue or expert BUT I did have fun with my kid. That’s all that matters!!

  • Grab some glue and squirt some on the paper.
  • Have your child glue down their feathers in a “wacky” way.
  • Once the feathers are in place, glue down some eyes and a nose.

  • Now display them proudly for ALL to see!
  • Then snap a few pictures and share them on our Facebook page to admire from a far! #gluedtomycrafts

Two black papers display Handprint Wacky Birds turkey crafts made from painted handprints, colorful feathers for tails and wings, googly eyes, and triangle paper beaks. gluedtomycrafts.blogspot.com is written at the bottom. Two colorful Handprint Wacky Birds crafts made from orange handprints with blue and yellow feather wings, googly eyes, and triangle beaks are displayed on black paper.

And the great thing about this mishap post – I did come up with a way to make handprints look like turkeys after the fact. That turkey post is in the works and will be live on the blog soon. It doesn’t involve feathers and I think that is where I went wrong in the first place. Feathers are tricky to work with 😉

Anyways, I hope you are inspired by today’s post to recreate it! You can also check out our Paint Splat Bird – Kid Craft post for another “bird” themed tutorial to make with your child!

One last thing – don’t forget to share pictures of your wacky birds with us on our Facebook page! #gluedtomycrafts
