Turkey Ornament Craft Idea For Kids

Who says ornaments are ONLY for Christmas?! Not me – that’s for sure! So that’s why I was recently inspired to make this Handprint Turkey Ornament with my son and share it with all my lovely readers, right here on Glued To My Crafts!!!

Turkey Keepsake Ornament Craft Idea For Thanksgiving

I’m challenging YOU to stock up on those plastic ornaments you see in the craft store this time of year because today’s DIY is a MUST-DO with the kids this Thanksgiving season! Whether you make one or a ton {like in a large setting such as a classroom party activity} it’s really EASY to pull together!! Not to mention, it’s a great piece to keep year after year!

To complete this turkey ornament craft, all you need to do is gather up a few simple materials {listed below} and let your child’s creative side shine this season! Our fall-inspired project tutorial will show you the “how to” below!

Then hang your turkey bulb ornament in your home for everyone to see OR gift it away! I can envision that these would be great on a Thanksgiving tables-cape as well! The possibilities are honestly endless and I hope I had a “hand” in inspiring the craftiness within you & your child!

Get the kids excited for the holidays by having them craft their very own turkey ornament! The perfect way to make this season extra special!

Craft Supplies:

  • Flat Plastic Ornament
  • Light Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Glitter Glue or Loose Craft Glitter
  • Low-Temp Hot Glue Gun
  • Dark Brown Crinkle Paper
  • Ribbon or Twine
  • Black Puffy Paint
  • Red Puffy Paint
  • Orange Puffy Paint

Directions:

  • First things first – the handprint!!! For each turkey ornament, you will want to trace/trim out your child’s handprint.
  • Decorate the fingertips with glitter and glue {or leave plain.}
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Next is the ornament. Stuff it until full, with dark brown crinkle paper.
  • Now get that glue gun hot and ready!
  • Glue the handprint cutout to the plastic ornament.
  • Next, on the other side of the plastic ornament, use your puffy paint to draw on a face for the turkey.
  • Set aside your finished Handprint Turkey Ornament to let it dry completely {an hour or two.}
  • Then add your ribbon to hang and gift away!!!
