Potato Stamped Baby Bird Craft

CHIRP CHIRP! It’s time to kick off the SPRING themed kids craft tutorials on the blog and this one is PERFECT keep the little ones busy while you wait for the weather to turn!

Not only are the stamps {aka potatoes} in this Potato Stamped Handprint Baby Birds tutorial super easy for anyone to pick up at their local grocery store BUT they are fairly inexpensive too {especially if you are planning on cooking some potatoes for your Easter celebrations!} Just be sure to set one aside for your bird craft activity and keep in mind it makes for a great keepsake as well!

Handprint Cutout & Potato Stamped Baby Birds

These Potato Stamped Handprint Baby Birds are a great way to celebrate the change in season plus they make for great keepsakes as well!

Craft Supplies:

  • Cardstock Paper {choice of color}
  • Orange Cardstock Paper
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Scissors
  • Marker or Pencil
  • Knife {adult supervision required!}
  • Large Raw, Uncooked Potato
  • Paper Plate
  • School Glue
  • Yellow Craft Paint
  • Large Wiggle Eyes

Directions:

  • First trace and cut out your child’s handprint out of cardstock. You need ONE handprint cutout per baby bird craft. Repeat for how many baby birds you want to make today.
  • Next ADULTS should grab the potato and cut it in half. Straight down the center to make TWO equal pieces.
  • Grab ONE of the potato halves for your stamp.
  • Now squirt the yellow paint on the paper plate.
  • Have children dip the potato half into the yellow paint {smear it around} then stamp it in the palm of the handprint cutout. Repeat for each handprint cutout.
  • To finish off the Potato Stamped Handprint Baby Bird, have children add on some facial features for the bird {the wiggle eyes and cardstock nose} as well as cutting/gluing on some brown stick legs.
  • Then set it all aside to let it dry completely, before displaying proudly!

Here’s your checklist of supplies to bring this craft to life:

  • Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Paint
  • Large Wiggle Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Kitchen Knife - adult supervision ALWAYS!
  • Large, Raw Potato
  • Small Paper Plate
  • School Glue
