These adorable little gnomes are the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit! They’re easy to make and can even be turned into ornaments. So grab some popsicle sticks and get crafting!

I don’t know what it is about gnomes and Christmas that I love so much. But I do remember when I was about eight years old and going on a class field trip to the local Christmas Market in Germany {fun fact – I grew up in Germany!}

We were about to board the bus to head back to the school, when we passed by a little stand selling “mystery” toy bags. Just like what you typically see here in the states, it was just plain brown paper bag, stapled at the top and you couldn’t see inside. You pick one, pay and go on your way.

I had a few euros left to my name, so I purchased one and headed on the bus. To my surprise, in the bag was a little stuffed Christmas gnome. The cutest thing EVER. I remember this moment oh-so-well because the excitement turned to disappointment because this “said” gnome needed some major TLC. His hat was separating from his body and I could see the stuffing inside. You can imagine, as a young child, I was pretty mad at the situation and felt really betrayed. But I remember going back home and my mom fixing it back up. All was well again. Now that I think about it, I wonder if my mom still has that very gnome. I guess I should ask about it! 😉

Anyways – I have a love for gnomes {and nutcrackers too!} So that’s what inspired this latest Christmas themed kid craft tutorial. I hope it inspires you today, as well! You can find all the details below!

Happy crafting, my dear friends! Don’t forget to share pictures of your finished popsicle stick gnomes with us! You can find us on Facebook or tag us on Instagram to see! #gluedtomycrafts

Looking for a festive and easy craft idea for your kids? Look no further than our Popsicle Stick Bearded Christmas Gnomes! This tutorial is super easy and can be turned into an ornament!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
  • School Glue or Glue Gun
  • White Craft Yarn
  • Craft Scissors
  • Christmas Scrapbook Paper
  • Skin Tone Cardstock Paper

Directions:

  • First glue your THREE popsicle sticks together in a triangle formation. Set aside and repeat for each Christmas gnome craft you want to make.
  • Next is the yarn beard. Cut off SEVERAL {we are talking maybe 30+} 12″ inch pieces of white yarn.
  • Tie them one by one onto one side of the popsicle stick shape. This will be gnome’s long beard. Make sure you cover one entire side of the popsicle stick shape with the tied-off white yarn. If desired, once the yarn is tied on, trim down the beard with your scissors.
  • Once done with the white yarn beard, grab all your paper pieces.
  • Cut out a large triangular hat for your gnome, as well as a large oval shaped nose out of the skin tone cardstock.
  • To finish off the Popsicle Stick Bearded Christmas Gnome craft – glue the cardstock hat in place on top of the popsicle stick shape {see our picture for example} as well as the paper “nose” in the center of the yarn beard.
  • Add any other embellishments you like {maybe some glitter or sequins for sparkle!}
  • Then display as is or hot glue some yarn to the back for easy hanging.
