Christmas Gnome Puppets

This simple, fun and festive project is perfect for keeping the little ones entertained (and busy!) during the holiday season. We can’t wait to see what amazing creations they come up with!

Craft Supplies:

  • Wood Ice Cream Scoop Sticks
  • Tempera Paint Crayons
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Light Tan Cardstock Paper
  • Paper Craft Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Black Sharpie Marker

Directions:

  • First take your choice of color in paint stick and paint one half of the wood scoop stick to represent the body of the gnome {but make sure you don’t paint the head/face in – you want that to stay skin toned.}
  • When done coloring on the scoop stick, set it aside.
  • Grab another scoop stick and repeat for each gnome you want to make today.
  • While those are drying, go ahead and cut out a long beard out of the white cardstock, a small oval from the tan cardstock for a nose and a small triangle hat from the scrapbook paper. You only need one piece of each, per gnome puppet.
  • To finish off the Scoop Stick Christmas Gnomes, use the school glue to glue on their hats and beard on the side of the scoop stick that wasn’t painted.
  • Follow that up with the small nose.
  • Take the black Sharpie marker and draw on a few buttons to give it some dimension.
  • Add other embellishments you see fit {maybe some small stickers on their hats!}
  • Then let it all dry completely before you play and/or display proudly.
  • For playing like a puppet – simply hold it on the bottom end with your fingers.
  • For an ornament or gift tag – hot glue some ribbon to the back.
  • You can also stick these in a potted flower pot or in a fairy garden.
  • Don’t forget to share pictures of your finished holiday gnome made from a scoop stick creations with us! #gluedtomycrafts

Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
