Hi friends! I’m super excited you have landed on today’s Scoop Stick Reindeer Puppets art project idea!

Boy – have we been on a roll, sharing a TON of Christmas themed kid craft tutorials on Glued To My Crafts lately! Have you seen them all? SO MUCH GOOD STUFF! I’m so proud of myself this year and everything I have shared so far.

Hopefully we have inspired you with at least ONE of our ideas. If not, I sure hope today’s latest one does! So on that note, if you are still looking for a last minute idea for your child to recreate today, look no further because this Scoop Stick Reindeer Puppet idea is super unique but oh-so-easy to make! It’s even got some handprint cutouts included for the reindeer’s antlers! Did you see that?!

With our simple step-by-step holiday inspired craft tutorial below, you and your child can transform some ordinary wooden scoop sticks into adorable handprint reindeer puppets with ease!

Not only is this reindeer kid craft idea really easy and festive for the season we are currently – BUT it can easily be made into reindeer ornaments to decorate the tree! Perfect to store after the season and bring out, year after year!

Scoop Stick Reindeer Puppets - Kid Craft Scoop Stick Reindeer Puppets - Kid Craft

Scoop Stick Reindeer Puppet

These adorable reindeer puppets are easy to make and perfect for the Christmas season!

Craft Supplies:

  • Wooden Scoop Popsicle Sticks {one per reindeer puppet}
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Brown Craft Paint
  • White Craft Paint
  • Black Craft Paint
  • Small Paint Brushes
  • Pencil or Marker
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • School Glue
  • Kid Friendly Craft Scissors
  • Small Red Pom Poms {one per reindeer puppet}

Directions:

  • First things first – grab your pencil, brown cardstock and craft scissors.
  • Trace one of your child’s hands on the brown cardstock {one handprint per popsicle stick}
  • Go ahead and trim it out with the scissors.
  • Follow that up by cutting straight down the center to make two pieces. These are the reindeer’s antlers.
  • Set them both aside.
  • Next grab your paper plate, paint brushes and craft paints.
  • Squirt all the craft paints on the paper plate.
  • Paint the popsicle scoop stick completely brown.
  • Follow that up by painting on small, dotted white & black eyes, as well.
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Once done drying, glue on the red pom pom for the nose, as well as gluing on the antlers to the back of the painted scoop stick.
  • To make into an ornament, just glue some string to the back or hole a punch a hole in the antler for string to go through.
  • Then display your wooden scoop stick reindeer puppet proudly for all to see!

Tools:

  • Small Paper Plate
  • Small Paint Brushes
