Welcome to my latest “Christmas buddies” tutorial! This time we are sharing something geared more towards adults to recreate this holiday season {although kids are ALWAYS encouraged to join in on the fun!}
As you may have noticed, at Glued To My Crafts I “might be” a little obsessed with gnomes. It all started when I was little and now 20+ years later, my love keeps growing for these adorable bearded men. On that note, I’m so glad I have this little website of my mine so I can share all the crafty ideas I have, centered around these quirky characters. Have you seen my reindeer or Christmas tree gnomes yet?
Anyways – I recently took some oval wood slice pieces I found at Hobby Lobby and turned them into gnome decorations for my Christmas tree. All it took was some paint, a little craft felt, my trusty glue gun and pretty baker’s twine to finish it off. That’s it! I’m going to share ALL the details with you all, in the full tutorial below, so keep on scrolling. I don’t want to bore you with anymore fluff so I’ll let you get straight to it!
Just remember – you can totally change the look and feel of these wood slice Christmas gnomes with your color choices! In fact – depending on your color scheme you go with, you can make these bearded ornaments for Valentine’s Day, St. Patty’s Day or even something patriotic would be nice. The choice is yours and I hope we started the crafty spark right here!
Happy crafting, my dear friends! I can’t wait to see what you come up with. Be sure to share some pictures of your Christmas gnome creations made from wood slices on our Facebook page! #gluedtomycrafts

Wood Slice Christmas Gnome
This is a really easy and fun Christmas craft idea that you can make in just a few minutes. All you need are some wood slices, paint, and a little bit of creativity. Add this adorable gnome to your holiday décor for a touch of whimsy.
CRAFT SUPPLIES:
- To recreate these Christmas themed gnome pieces, you will need some flat, unfinished natural wood long oval shapes {one per gnome ornament.}
- You will also need a small paper plate, paint brushes, hot glue gun, tan colored craft felt, basic fabric craft scissors and decorative ribbon for hanging and/or gifting.

DIRECTIONS:
- First things first – squirt your TWO paint choices of paint colors on the paper plate. White being the most important!
- Take one wood slice and lay it on a flat surface. Paint half of the wood slice with the white craft paint for the gnome’s beard and the other half, your choice of color for his hat.
- Set it aside to allow it to dry completely. Repeat for each wood slice gnome you are making today.
- Next, while the paint is dry, grab your brown craft felt and scissors. Cut out a small, oval shape from the craft felt for the gnome’s nose.
- Now get the glue gun hot and ready. Hot glue your felt nose piece in the center of the painted wood slice from earlier.
- Go ahead and also cut off a short piece of ribbon and tie it off to make a loop for hanging your wood piece.
- Finally, finish off your Christmas Gnome Wood Slice Piece by hot gluing your tied off ribbon piece to the back for easy hanging or gifting. And that’s it! Repeat over and over again!!

Easy peasy to make and I hope it inspires you to get crafty this holiday season! Maybe I can even encourage you to make a whole bunch all at once & gift a few of them to someone special in your life, with a unique Christmas wood slice gnome ornament piece! This idea would also be clever for a teacher gift idea!
Remember – although I “may be” pushing this idea for the upcoming red & green holiday, you easily change out the paint colors for all the holidays we celebrate throughout the year. Whatever the heart desires, go for it! In fact, you might even see this idea, in a few different variations, a couple more times on Glued To My Crafts so be prepared 😉
