This paper plate pirate ship craft is perfect for any young buccaneer to make this summer!

Ahoy mateys! If you’re looking for a fun and creative project that the kids will love to recreate over and over again this summer, then look no further than this paper plate pirate ship craft idea!

With just some basic supplies and instructions, you can help your little ones create their very own sailing vessel to explore the seven seas – or maybe just around your house!

Not only is this activity educational – it also promotes imaginative play and hone’s important skills such as fine motor coordination. Plus kids can customize it however they like.

Paper Plate Pirate Ship Craft Idea For Kids

Set sail on your own adventure with this fun paper plate pirate ship craft! Time to let your inner pirate out and explore the seas of creativity!

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • Craft Scissors
  • Brown Tissue Paper
  • Jumbo Popsicle Stick
  • School Glue
  • Pirate Flag Printable – on our landing page
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Black Sharpie Marker
  • Hand-Held Office Stapler

Directions:

  • First things first for this craft – cut your paper plate in half. Straight up the center to make TWO equal pieces.
  • Reserve one half for this pirate boat craft {or use both if you like to make TWO boats today!}
  • Next grab your brown tissue paper and scissors.
  • Cut the tissue paper into small squares.
  • Now put a drizzle of glue on the paper plate half and start layering your tissue paper on top, until the plate is completely covered.
  • When done, set it aside to allow it to dry a bit.
  • Next up – grab all your cardstock paper and scissors again.
  • Go ahead and cut out ONE of the pirate flag designs from our printable.
  • Out of the white – cut out THREE, small circles for the windows on the boat.
  • Use the Sharpie marker to draw on lines to make them each to give them some dimension.
  • Finally – to finish the pirate ship paper plate craft – simply staple and/or glue all your cardstock pieces in place. Start off with the craft stick and build it from the there. The flag will go on the top of the popsicle stick, while the windows on the decorated paper plate.
  • And that’s a wrap! It’s now time to display it proudly for ALL to see. Clearly, this paper pirate boat is worth showing off on the fridge!
