A colorful rocket craft made with hearts and felt, featuring a child's photo in the center.

This rocket keepsake craft is a wonderful, hands-on project that results in a heartfelt gift for a parent, grandparent, or anyone who makes a child’s world brighter. It’s more than just an activity; it’s a personal message of love, powered by creativity.

With our simple tutorial and free printable, you can help a child build a cool rocket and fill it with five special reasons they love someone. This creates a personal keepsake that will be treasured for years to come.

Let’s launch into this creative journey and make a gift that’s truly out of this world!

Craft Supplies:

Before starting the craft, gather all necessary materials. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Handprint Rocket Printable – from box.com
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Orange Cardstock Paper
  • Crayons, Coloring Pencils or Markers
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Embellishments

Having everything ready before you begin will make the crafting process smoother and more enjoyable for both you and the children.

Directions:

Recreating this Valentine’s Day craft is simple and rewarding. Follow these steps to make it come to life within minutes:

  • Start off by downloading the free “I love you because” printable listed above in the supply list.
  • Let the kids color in their rocket shape on the printable however they like. Encourage them to be creative! Next, help them fill out each heart on the template with different reasons why they love the person who will receive the card. These could be funny, sweet, or totally unique to your child’s relationship with that person.
  • Once decorating is complete, help the kids carefully cut out the rocket shape and each heart using scissors. Set the pieces aside while you prepare the handprints.
  • The coolest part of this rocket is the powerful flames: your child’s handprints! Trace one or two hands onto orange cardstock (or any color you like for the flames), then cut them out. These cut-out handprints will be the flaming blast at the bottom of your rocket.
  • Arrange and glue the cut-out pieces together: glue the handprints behind the bottom of the rocket so the fingers stick out like flames. Attach the hearts with the “I love you because” messages all around the “flames” in the craft. Feel free to add any extra decorations your child desires, like stickers, glitter, or star accents.
  • Once everything is glued down, set the craft aside to dry completely. After drying, your adorable paper keepsake is ready to be proudly displayed on a wall, fridge, or gifted to someone special.
  • Don’t forget to snap some photos of your finished masterpiece! We’d love to see your creativity in action – share your pictures with us to inspire others!
