Handprint "Five Reasons Why I Love You" Craft Idea for Kids

There is something undeniably special about capturing the size of a child’s hand. Those little fingers grow so fast, and before you know it, they aren’t so little anymore. This Valentine’s Day, we are combining that sweet nostalgia with a heartfelt message in this “Five Reasons Why I Love You” handprint craft.

This Valentine’s Day handprint project is more than just cardstock paper and glue; it’s a keepsake. It encourages children to think about what they truly appreciate about someone they love – whether it’s Mom, Dad, a grandparent, or a favorite teacher. Plus, it’s simple enough for preschoolers to enjoy with a little help, yet meaningful enough for older kids to make on their own. On that note, let’s get crafty and spread some love!

Craft Supplies:

Before starting the craft, gather all necessary materials. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Five Reasons Printable – from box.com
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Pink Cardstock Paper
  • Choice of Color Cardstock Paper
  • Crayons, Coloring Pencils or Markers
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Embellishments

Having everything ready before you begin will make the crafting process smoother and more enjoyable for both you and the children.

Directions:

Recreating this Valentine’s Day craft is simple and rewarding. Follow these steps to make it come to life within minutes:

  • Start by downloading the free printable template.
  • Have the kids color in five of the heart shapes {I included an extra heart just in case!} Then, assist them in cutting out each heart and the “love” saying using scissors.
  • Help the kids trace their hand onto pink cardstock and cut it out.
  • Glue the handprint cutout in the center of another piece of cardstock paper. Next, attach the five heart shapes and sayings around the handprint.
  • In each heart shape, have the kids write one of their top five reasons why they “love” the lucky receiver of the card.
  • Once everything is glued down, set the craft aside to dry completely. When it’s ready, proudly display or gift your adorable paper five reasons why keepsake!
  • Don’t forget to snap some pictures of your masterpiece and share them with us – we’d love to see your creativity in action!
