I’m calling all my crafty moms and teacher friends who absolutely LOVE the children’s book author, Eric Carle.

The other day I shared our Paper Plate Spider tutorial that was in honor of one of his books and today I’m continuing the crafty fun on Glued To My Crafts, with another another kid friendly craft idea that is absolutely perfect to tie a theme together and keep the little ones busy after story time.

Just like ALL our kid friendly crafts & tutorials on our website – this Paper Plate Rainbow Hermit Crab craft activity is super simple, fun for all ages and really inexpensive too! Did I mention it also goes along perfectly with the book A House for Hermit Crab by Eric Carle AND the craft itself in-cooperates a cute handprint from your child as well???

Paper Plate Hermit Crab Craft

This easy hermit crab craft for kids is perfect for summer! It’s simple, fun, and educational too.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • Tissue Paper
  • Red Cardstock Paper
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • School Glue
  • Craft Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Marker or Pencil

Directions:

  • First cut your tissue paper into small squares.
  • Take your paper plate and put a good amount of glue all over it.
  • Have children place the tissue paper on top of the glue, until the paper plate is completely covered and makes a pretty mosaic design.
  • When they are done with that, set it aside to let it dry completely while you work on the hermit crab’s body. To do this, simply trace your child’s hand on the red cardstock and trim out.
  • Be sure to trim out some eyes as well.
  • To finish off the Paper Plate Hermit Crab kid craft – simply staple the finished cardstock pieces in their designated spots and display proudly!
