Handprint Graduation Keepsake

Handprints are such special memories to hold on to and this simple craft idea is easy enough that everyone, no matter their crafting level, can enjoy making it. Especially right before the big day!

It also doesn’t take too much time either – just a few supplies, some paint, and an afternoon of bonding with your little graduate or graduand – then voila! You will have yourself a graduation keepsake that is just as unique as your child! Let’s get started!

Craft Supplies:

  • UPDATED 2025 Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Washable Craft Paint {any color}
  • Large Foam Paint Brush
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Baby Wipes
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First grab the 2023 keepsake printable listed above in the supply list.
  • Now print out the provided graduation keepsake file on a single sheet of white cardstock paper. You only need ONE print per craft.
  • If desired, use a paper trimmer to trim down the edges.
  • Next grab your choice of color in craft paint, as well as your foam paint brush and paper plate.
  • Squirt the craft paint on the paper plate.
  • Pick one of your child’s hands {left or right – doesn’t matter!}
  • Paint the palm and fingers of your child’s hand completely and press it down in the center of the printable, between the THREE numbers. This will complete the 2023 look.
  • Now carefully lift up your child’s hand from the printable and clean off the excess paint with a baby wipe & a quick trip to the sink.
  • Add other embellishments to give your graduation keepsake piece a personalized look.
  • Then display/gift away proudly your child’s beautiful handprint keepsake piece!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
