Graduation Applesauce Cups - Party Snack Idea

Celebrate your graduate’s big day with these easy DIY Graduation Hat Applesauce Cups! They are a fun and creative way to honor their accomplishments while still having tasty treats on hand.

Craft Supplies:

Before you start crafting, gather these easy-to-find items. You might already have some of them at home!

  • Circular Applesauce Cups –  one per serving
  • Scissors
  • Black Cardstock Paper
  • Googly Eyes
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Sharpie Marker
  • String/Craft Yarn

Directions:

  • To recreate – cut out a simple 3×3″ inch square out of some black cardstock. You will want ONE square per applesauce cup {keep in mind, if you need to make it larger or smaller – go for it! This is just what I eye-balled for mine} This is the graduation cap.
  • Next is the tassel. You can either buy these premade OR make them yourself {Pinterest to the rescue!} I just wrapped my string around a thick piece of cardstock, several times and tied it off/cut it. Like I said – Pinterest to the rescue! Michaels also has some great premade tassels for this.
  • Now get your LOW TEMP glue gun hot and ready.
  • Grab TWO large wiggle eyes and hot glue them to one side of the applesauce.
  • Repeat for each container.
  • Next up – the adding on the hats. Hot glue the black cardstock squares to the lids of each applesauce containers.
  • Finish off with the tassels in the center of it.
  • Finally – draw on a smiley face with the black Sharpie marker.
  • Add anything else you like for that special look and feel.
  • Then admire your hard work and get ready to gift them away!!!

Tips for Crafting Like a Pro:

While making these is pretty straightforward, here are a few tips to ensure your DIY craft turns out perfectly every time.

  • Use pre-measured templates: If you’re cutting multiple cardstock squares, create a single template to trace. It saves time and ensures the squares are uniform.
  • Keep the glue neat: If you’re worried about messy glue lines, consider using craft glue dots instead of a glue gun—they’re easy to work with and leave no residue.
  • Double-check the foil lids: Ensure the foil lids of your applesauce cups are intact before attaching the hats. A damaged lid could ruin the structural integrity.
  • Aim for durability: If you plan to transport the favors to another venue, pack them tightly in a box so the caps don’t shift or detach.

Crafting with a group? Turn this into a fun pre-party activity that family and friends can help with!
