Paper Plate and Paint Splat Unicorn Hair - Kid Craft Idea

Paper Plate Unicorn Hair Craft

You guys already know how much I love my paint splat crafts on Glued To My Crafts. It’s becoming a “slight” addiction at this point. I just LOVE coming up with and sharing this unique marbled paint technique of mine, with my readers.

So long story short, recently I was scratching my brain and trying to come up with a “unicorn” themed paint splat idea to share right here on our website. It was my goal to make it happen. After all – unicorns are ALSO very popular on our website and the unicorn trend in general, doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon!

After playing around with various ideas in my craft stash, below you will find my latest tutorial using what I “dub” as the Glued To My Crafts paint splat in a unicorn format!

For this paper and puffy paint unicorn craft idea I used my paint splatter technique to make marbled unicorn hair on a simple paper plate cut in half and then I built the unicorn head from there. I hope you see the vision in my example pictures and enjoy making some of your own magical unicorn hair pieces with your child today! Happy crafting!!!

Paper Plate and Paint Splat Unicorn Hair - Kid Craft Idea

This is a fun and easy kids craft that will let them unleash their creativity. Paper plates and paint make for some magical unicorn hair! This is a great activity to do together, so get your child’s imagination going with this simple craft.

Craft Supplies:

  • Large White Paper Plate
  • Color Cardstock Paper
  • Glitter Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Scissors
  • Tulip Puffy Paint
  • Color Markers/Crayons
  • Office Stapler
  • School Glue
  • Baby Wipes

Directions:

  • Please make sure you have a good working area that can get dirty because paint will squeeze out of the sides of this craft!!!
  • First cut your paper plate in half, straight up the center. You will need ONE paper plate half per craft.
  • Now fold your paper plate “half” in half.
  • Unfold and squirt some paint on one side of the paper plate piece {I like the Tulip Puffy Paint for this particular step since it’s in a nice controlled squirt bottle} Be sure to keep the paint inside the paper plate and not place too much down.
  • Once the paint is down, go ahead and fold/squish your paper plate together again. Be sure to rub your hand all over the folded piece, so the paint will cover your the inside nicely {paint WILL more than likely squeeze out the sides, so be sure to pay attention to that and clean up with baby wipes!}
  • Now carefully unfold your piece to reveal your design inside. This is the unicorn’s head/hair. Sprinkle some glitter/rhinestones on top of the wet paint if desired.
  • To finish the Paper Plate Splat Unicorn craft – staple your painted piece to the center of a single sheet of cardstock paper.
  • Now cut/glue a unicorn horn and ears out of your remaining cardstock, to the piece with the paper plate.
  • Follow that up by drawing on some eyelashes with crayons/markers under the paper plate design.
  • Lastly, add other embellishments you see fit to complete your unicorn craft.
  • When done, set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly.
