Paint Splat Butterflies On Paper – Craft Idea For Kids
So let’s start off with a little backstory on how this Paint Splat Butterflies On Paper kid craft idea came to life.
One of my favorite crafts growing up, was something I vaguely remember being called “splat monsters.”
It was basically a piece of thick cardstock paper you folded in half, squirted some paint in between and pressed together to make a monster design. It wasn’t anything elaborate but I still remember doing this very craft several times, to this day.
Anyways – long story short, I was inspired to give that idea some life but change it up for a SPRING themed craft instead. Hence how today’s Paint Splat Butterflies kid craft idea came to life!
And because I’m awesome like that, I’ve included a FREE gender-neutral butterfly template below, that you can download with ease and get straight to crafting in no time!

Directions:
* First print the free butterfly template that is listed above in the supply list. You will want ONE printable per craft.
* Go ahead and fold your piece in half, with the butterfly design inside.
* Unfold and squirt some paint on one side of the butterfly {I like the Tulip Puffy Paint for this particular step since it’s in a nice controlled squirt bottle} Be sure to keep the paint inside the design of the butterfly.
* Once the paint is down, go ahead and fold/squish your piece of paper together again.
* Be sure to rub your hand all over the folded piece, so the paint will cover your design nicely.
* Now carefully unfold your piece to reveal your design.
* To finish the Splat Butterflies – glue a popsicle stick in the center of the paper to represent the butterfly’s body.
* Then draw on some antennas and sprinkle on glitter to the wet paint.
* Set aside to let it dry completely before displaying proudly.
* If you like – you can also cut out the finished paint splatter butterfly design and display it that way.
