Spring is in the air, and it’s the perfect time for a fun and colorful craft!

The Paint Splat Eggs Hiding in Crepe Paper Grass project combines all these benefits into an experience that’s vibrant, tactile, and easy to customize. Kids will delight in making marbled paint patterns and setting up a playful springtime scene, complete with hidden eggs nestled in bright green grass.

Whether you’re looking for a classroom art lesson, a weekend activity, or a new holiday tradition, this project is sure to bring laughter, creativity, and a splash of springtime color to your day.

An open card shows three outlined egg shapes, two decorated with yellow and pink puff paint squiggles. Two bottles of puff paint, one yellow and one pink, are next to the card along with sheets of colored paper. A white paper displays four egg shapes with colorful, swirled paint patterns in pink, yellow, and orange. The paper is placed on top of pink and patterned sheets. GluedToMyCraftsBlog.com is visible at the bottom.

This Paint Splatter Easter Egg project is a fantastic way for kids to get creative with colors and textures.  They’ll love the process of making unique marbled patterns and then setting up a scene with their creations hiding in pretend grass. Let’s get crafting!

Craft Supplies:

  • Mini Egg Printable – from our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Tulip Puffy Paint {two to three different colors}
  • Craft Scissors
  • Blue Construction Paper
  • Green Crepe Paper
  • School Glue

Directions:

  • This craft can get a little messy, which is part of the fun! Lay down some newspaper or a plastic tablecloth to protect your work surface. A large tray is also a great way to keep the paint contained and makes cleanup a breeze.
  • Next up, print out the free MINI egg printable mentioned in the materials list. You will want one printable sheet for each craft project.
  • Go ahead and fold your paper piece in half, ensuring the egg designs are on the inside. This crease is essential for the paint transfer magic that happens next!
  • Unfold your paper and squeeze small dots of your chosen paint colors onto one side of the egg designs on the printable. You don’t need a lot of paint—just a few drops of each color scattered inside the outlines will do the trick. Too much paint might make the paper soggy, so keep the drops small.
  • Once the paint is down, go ahead and fold your piece of paper together again along the crease you made earlier. Be sure to rub your hand all over the folded piece. really squish that paint around! This ensures the paint spreads out and covers your egg designs nicely.
  • Now, carefully unfold your piece of paper to reveal your “paint splatter” eggs! It’s always a fun surprise to see how the colors have mixed and marbled together. Set the paper aside to allow it to dry completely.
  • While the eggs are drying, you are going to make your crepe paper “grass” for the eggs to hide in. Take the green crepe paper and cut it into three to four long strips.
  • To create a grassy texture, you can either crinkle the strips up in your hands or fringe them by making small cuts along one edge. This is a great task for little hands to practice their scissor skills!
  • It’s time to bring it all together! Take a fresh piece of paper or cardstock to use as your background. Glue down your strips of green crepe paper “grass” along the bottom of the page. You can layer them to make the grass look fuller and more textured.
  • Finally, cut out your dry paint splat Easter eggs and have your child decide where they should hide. Tuck them in and around the crepe paper grass, using a dab of glue to secure them in place.
  • Set your masterpiece aside to let the glue dry completely before displaying it proudly. These make wonderful decorations for the fridge or cheerful gifts for family members!

Maybe try making more eggs or adding extra details like flowers or little critters in the grass. Most importantly, have fun and let your creativity shine!

We’d love to see your amazing creations! Share your finished project or any creative twists you tried, and inspire others to join in the crafting fun. Happy spring and happy crafting!
