Clothespin & Popsicle Stick Butterflies - Art Project For Spring

These easy clothespin butterflies are perfect for kids to make this spring! Learn how to make them with a handful of materials and steps!

Craft Supplies:

  • Wooden Clothespins – 1 per craft
  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 1 per craft
  • Paint Pens or Craft Paint
  • School Glue
  • Craft Scissors
  • Cardstock Paper

Directions:

  • Start by painting your clothespin and popsicle stick in any colors or patterns you like! You’ll need one clothespin and one popsicle stick for each butterfly craft.
  • Once painted, set them aside to dry completely.
  • While waiting for the paint to dry, take your cardstock and cut out a pair of antennae for each butterfly.
  • To assemble your Clothespin Popsicle Stick Butterfly, have the children “pinch” the jumbo popsicle stick with the clothespin to create the butterfly’s wings.
  • Next, help them glue the cardstock antennae onto the top of the clothespin.
  • Finally, draw on eyes to bring their butterfly to life! Once finished, they can proudly display or play with their colorful creations.

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
