Handprint Clothespin Butterflies - Kid Craft

Have you ever seen colorful butterflies floating through the air on a sunny day and wished you could join them? While we may not be able to sprout wings and take flight, we can create beautiful paper butterflies that resemble those winged wonders of nature.

In this post, I’m going to share a fun clothespin butterfly craft that uses handprints as the wings. It’s such a simple yet imaginative project that allows your child’s unique hand shape to become part of a crafty creature.

Creating these clothespin butterflies is an engaging art activity that fosters creative expression and brings smiles.

By the end, your little one may start to feel like they have wings of their own! Read on to learn how you can help your child craft clothespin butterflies with their very own handprint wings.

Handprint Clothespin Butterflies - Kid Craft Handprint Clothespin Butterflies - Kid Craft

These easy and adorable clothespin butterflies are perfect for spring! Kids will love making these colorful creatures with their handprints.

Craft Supplies:

  • Wood Flat Clothespins – 1 per craft
  • Craft Paint
  • Paper Plate
  • Paint Brushes
  • Scissors
  • School Glue
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • Pencil
  • Black Marker

Directions:

  • Start by squeezing some craft paint onto a paper plate.
  • Let the kids paint one side of each clothespin (one per butterfly) in any design they like.
  • Use a fine-tip Sharpie marker to add small black eyes to the clothespins. Set them aside to dry completely.
  • Next, take your scrapbook paper and a pencil.
  • Carefully trace your child’s hands onto the paper, then repeat so you have two handprints for each butterfly.
  • Cut out the handprints along with two small antenna shapes for each butterfly.
  • Once the handprints and antennas are ready, attach them to the back of the painted clothespins using glue.
  • To complete the craft, let the children decorate the wings and body with their own creative touches. handprint butterfly puppet
  • Once decorated, set everything aside to dry fully before displaying or playing with your beautiful creations!
