Do you remember the classic children’s book by Marcus Pfister, The Rainbow Fish? If you do, then this cupcake liner rainbow fish craft is for YOU! It’s a whimsical way to bring the characters of your favorite storybook to life.

Cupcake Liner Rainbow Fish

Rainbow Fish Craft Idea Using Cupcake Liners

I may sound like a broken record by now – but I honestly had a TON of favorite children’s books growing up.

Reading was always the center of my early childhood life.

From picking out books on the Scholastic ordering form or even going to the local library with my parents, on a nearly weekly basis. My dad still to this date, makes tons of trips to the library and always have a huge pile to go through. If I had more time in the day, I would be doing the same right now.

On that note, whenever I find a childhood favorite of mine, I instantly have to purchase it and add it to my son’s ever-growing collection {even if he could care less about my motives or feelings behind it!} I just want him to grow up with the same love and appreciation of books like I have. There is just something about a book that brings out your imagination and good memories too.

Take for example the beautiful illustrated children’s book “Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister.

Although I don’t have any direct memories about it per say {just that we read it often in elementary school} I do instantly remember it and smile when I see the beautiful foil-stamped front cover. So naturally – we had to do a kid friendly ocean craft in honor of that beautiful rainbow colored fish in the story.

So not only is today’s Cupcake Liner Rainbow Fish kid craft tutorial perfect to do in honor of the book but it’s also super simple, fun for all ages and inexpensive too. You honestly have no excuse to let the craftiness “swim” away – grab those supplies {and book} and get to work asap! Happy crafting my friends!

Not only is our Cupcake Liner Rainbow Fish craft perfect to do in honor of the book but it’s also simple and fun for all ages!

Craft Supplies:

  • Blue Cupcake Liners
  • Blue Cardstock Paper
  • Yellow Cardstock Paper
  • Glue Stick or School Glue
  • Scissors
  • Small Rhinestones

Directions:

  • First flatten and glue your light blue cupcake liners to the blue cardstock. This may take some extra effort but it’s super easy for kids to do.
  • Once the cupcake liners are down, grab your other cardstock paper and cut out other “fishy” embellishments like fins, eyes, mouth – to give them life.
  • Glue those paper pieces down, on top of the cupcake liner.
  • To finish your Cupcake Liner Rainbow Fish, simply have children glue on the rhinestones in various spots on the fish.
  • Then let dry completely before displaying proudly!

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible.
