Clothespin & Pom Pom Painted Smiling Watermelon - Kid Craft Idea

This fun and easy watermelon craft is perfect for kids of all ages! All you need is a few supplies and some imagination.

Craft Supplies:

  • Watermelon Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Colored Cardstock Paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick or School Glue
  • Wood Clothespins
  • Medium Sized Pom Poms
  • Green Craft Paint
  • Black Craft Paint
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Large Wiggle Eyes
  • Black Sharpie Marker

Directions:

  • First print out the watermelon slice template printable, that is listed above in the supply list. You will want to print it on a single sheet of white cardstock paper. You only need ONE print per watermelon craft.
  • Now grab your scissors and trim out the watermelon slice from the printable. Discard excess paper.
  • Next grab your choice of adhesive and glue the watermelon slice to the center of another piece of colored cardstock paper.
  • Now grab your two clothespins and pom poms.
  • Pinch ONE pom pom into each of the clothespins. You now have TWO polka dot paint brushes!
  • Next squirt the two different paint colors {black and green} on the paper plate.
  • Dip one clothespin paint brush in the green and the other in the black.
  • Now you are ready to paint! Add green dots along the rim of the watermelon slice, as well as adding a few black “watermelon seeds” in the inside.
  • Once done, set it aside to let it dry completely before moving onto the next step.
  • To finish off the polka dot watermelon craft, glue on the wiggle eyes and draw on a smile. That’s it!

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use.
