On that note, if you are looking to do a simple activity with your toddler to pass the time this holiday season, I have the perfect craft for you today! I call it “Pom Pom Painted Polka Dot Covered Ugly Sweater” and it’s simply allowing your child’s imagination to go wild & have them paint their paper sweater designs however they want! I’ve even included a PRINTABLE UGLY SWEATER TEMPLATE to get you started with ease today!

After you take advantage of grabbing our free file, you just need to make some “paint brushes” out of clothespins & craft pom poms, so you can make that “polka dot” effect with ease. Then afterwards, grab the glitter, glue and maybe some premade stickers & let kids decorate their sweater printout out however THEY like from there!

The fun part of this paper ugly sweater craft is that you don’t need any rules or expectations when it comes to recreate it. Just like the real deal that people typical create for holiday parties, the messy and more unique wins! Just let kids loss on the craft supplies and then admire their beautiful holiday creations afterwards! After all – that is the fun part of doing any type of craft with them!

Looking for a fun and easy craft project to do with the kids this Christmas? Look no further than this pom pom painted polka dot ugly sweater tutorial!

Craft Supplies:

  • SWEATER PRINTABLE – on our landing page
  • Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Paints
  • Large Pom Poms
  • Wooden Clothespins
  • Small Paper Plate
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First, if you haven’t already, go ahead and grab the FREE HOLIDAY SWEATER TEMPLATE listed in the supply list above.
  • Print it out on your printer, on your choice of colored cardstock paper. Print one sweater design out per craft you want to make with your child today.
  • For the pom pom paint brushes – pinch open the clothespin and insert the pom pom. Let it close on the pom pom.
  • Place some craft paint on a paper plate.
  • Have your child dip their pom pom paintbrush into the paint – then on the sweater design.
  • Repeat until completely the holiday jacket is covered in polka dots.
  • If desired, shake loose craft glitter on top of the wet paint and add holiday stickers on top as well.
  • When done decorating the polka dot ugly sweater, let the piece of paper dry completely before displaying.
  • Be sure to discard paint covered pom poms and rinse off clothespins with water so you can reuse them again.
  • If desired – use scissors to cut out the decorated sweater shape and display it that way!
