Popsicle Stick Penguins In Sweaters - Kid Craft

Penguins In Christmas Sweaters Craft Idea

What’s your favorite craft medium? If you have been a long time of follower of Glued To My Crafts you probably know, that as of late, my favorite material to use for our kids craft tutorials is jumbo popsicle sticks. Even I sometimes surprise myself on what I can make out of them!

So without further ado – I’m super proud to present my latest winter kid craft idea and I titled it “popsicle stick penguin in a yarn Christmas sweater.” It’s super unique to our website and a first-seen-here idea! Not to mention – super budget friendly!

I’ve taken my basic craft stick shape like I really enjoy building off of, gave it some penguin features and then wrapped it in scrap pieces of yarn, to make them stay warm for the winter season. I hope you see my vision in it and are inspired to recreate your own penguins, with your child today!

So enough chit chat from me… I’m sure your mind is racing and you are ready to get to it. Go raid your stash, grab some popsicle sticks and some colorful yarn, so you can create your very own penguins in sweaters creations today! All the instructions can be found below and if you need help, please feel free to reach out to me!

Don’t forget – I wanna admire your penguin creations so please be sure to snap a few pictures along the way and tag us on Facebook or use our special branded #gluedtomycrafts hashtag on Instagram for us to see!

Happy crafting my friends!!! Hopefully your crafty plans are amazing today because of this penguins in sweaters art project idea you found on Glued To My Crafts just now!

Directions:

  • First get the glue gun hot and ready.
  • Assemble the base of your penguin friend by gluing THREE jumbo popsicle sticks and TWO mini popsicle sticks together to look like a fence door {3 next to each other and the mini popsicle sticks across to secure in place.}
  • Allow it to dry completely.
  • Repeat the above steps for each penguin friend you want to make today.
  • Now you are ready for paint! Grab your black tempera paint crayon {or craft paint w/brush} and paint the newly made popsicle stick shape, completely black.
  • Set it aside again, to allow it to dry completely.
  • Now grab all your cardstock paper and scissors.
  • Out of the orange cardstock, cut out a triangle nose and two heart shaped feet for the penguin.
  • Out of the white cardstock, cut out his belly, as well as a “fur” piece for the bottom of his hat.
  • Out of your choice of colored cardstock, cut out his half circle hat shape.
  • Set aside all your paper pieces till the last step, EXCEPT for his belly paper piece.
  • Go ahead and hot glue the belly piece cutout to the center of the painted popsicle stick shape.
  • Now grab your craft yarn, the glue gun and your craft scissors.
  • Take one end of your yarn and hot glue it to the back of your popsicle stick penguin body shape.
  • Start wrapping the yarn SEVERAL times around the popsicle stick base, until you have the look you like. I highly encourage that you leave some of the white belly exposed, so it really looks like a penguin.
  • When ready, cut the yarn and use the hot glue gun again, to secure the loose end to the back of the popsicle stick base.
  • Now go ahead and glue ALL the remaining paper pieces to the yarn wrapped popsicle stick shape from earlier.
  • Don’t forget to hot glue some wiggle eyes on so he can see.
  • Add any other embellishments you see fit.
  • Then let it dry completely before displaying proudly!!!
  • Don’t forget to snap a few pictures of your finished popsicle stick penguins in sweaters creations to share with us! #gluedtomycrafts
