So grab some colorful yarn, scissors, and get ready to embark on a magical under-the-sea adventure with your little ones. Let’s dive in!
This fun yarn mermaid hair craft is perfect for kids and mermaid fans of all ages! It’s easy to make and the results are adorable.
Craft Supplies:
- Jumbo Popsicle Sticks – 3 per craft
- School Glue
- Craft Yarn
- Scissors
- Seashell Stickers
- optional – sequins, glitter, embellishments
Directions:
- First things first – glue THREE jumbo popsicle sticks together in a simple triangle formation. You will want ONE assembled popsicle stick shape PER mermaid hair craft.
- Set aside to let it dry completely.
- While that is drying, grab your craft yarn and scissors.
- Cut SEVERAL long strips of yarn {about 10 inches long each} that will be the “hair” of the mermaid craft. I would say 20-30 long pieces is a good amount but you might need more.
- Next go ahead and TIE ALL the pieces of craft yarn strands to ONE side of your popsicle stick triangle shape, in a line. You want them to be facing inside the popsicle stick shape {like hair on a face.}
- Repeat/add as much yarn as you like, until you have the look you like.
- If need be – trim down the secured yarn with your scissors. You can make the hair as short or as long as you like.
- Finally – when the yarn is in place, grab your seashell stickers and glue them on ONE side of the yarn hair. This way it looks like a bow or flowers in her hair.
- At this point in time you can also add some sparkle, glitz and aflash of shimmer if you like!
- Now the next step is completely optional. If you choose to, you CAN add a skin-tone cardstock piece in the center of your popsicle stick shape {similar to our Popsicle Stick Wizard Hat craft tutorial} and use markers to draw in her face. But if you choose not to do that step {and leave it blank like ours in the example pictures} you are now ready to display it proudly for ALL to see!
