Paper Plate Mermaid House - Kid Craft

With our help and a few simple supplies, you will create paper plate sand castles for your mermaid friends!

Craft Supplies:

  • Large Paper Plate
  • House Printable  – ON OUR LANDING PAGE
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Scissors
  • Gold or Tan Craft Paint
  • Paint Brush
  • Green Tissue Paper
  • School Glue or Glue Stick
  • Paper Flowers
  • Embellishments

Directions:

  • First things first – cut off a small section of your large paper plate to make the bottom of the mermaid house more flat.
  • Discard the small piece you just cut off.
  • Next up – paint the paper plate completely gold or tan {or honestly any other color you like!} The gold or tan color will give it a more “sandcastle” look.
  • Set aside to let it dry completely.
  • Now print the FREE mermaid house printable above.
  • Print out the file in color on a single sheet of white cardstock paper. You only need to print one per craft.
  • Using scissors, trim out each design in the printable you just printed.
  • Now decide which windows you are going to use for your craft {you only need two windows.} There are two different versions of mermaids in windows OR you can use the provided blank windows & draw whatever you like inside of them {bonus tip – trim out the center of the blank windows and use your child’s pictures to fill the frames!} Feel free to use ALL the pieces in the printable or discard the ones you don’t like.
  • Set aside your paper pieces for later on.
  • Next up – grab the green tissue paper.
  • Cut a few long strips and twist them up with your fingers to create “seaweed” to decorate the outside of the home.
  • Go ahead and glue those to the paper plate piece, near the bottom of the house. Add as much or as little as you like.
  • Finally, the last step. Glue/staple the printed paper embellishments you recently choose, in place on the paper plate.
  • Now add anything else you like for that custom mermaid sand castle house look {like the paper flowers, ocean themed stickers or even glitter!} before displaying proudly for all to see!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
