Back To School - Popsicle Stick Apple Frame Craft

Apple Picture Frame Made From Craft Sticks

Children typically anticipate the first day of school with a mixture of anxiety and excitement. With that being said, I have the perfect back-to-school craft idea that can be done at home or in the classroom to “ease” those jitters.

Everyone’s favorite icon for the back-to-school season is the apple.

That’s why I came up with today’s Craft Stick Apple Picture Frame tutorial. It’s great for kids to make on the first day back OR for parents to recreate with their child the night before, as a way to beat the first day jitters.

Not to mention, your wooden apple picture frame will make a great decor piece that can be treasured for years to come. You can either prop it on a shelf as is, add magnets to the back or secure ribbon to hang it from a hook. So many ways to display it!

Then once you secure that “first day of school” picture to the back of the frame, it’s like a sigh of relief. Your child made it through the day and they got this from here on out!

So what are we waiting for?! Let the FUN begin!!! Find the full tutorial below for our Apple Picture Frame craft below and let’s create some one-of-a-kind “crisp” crafty pieces today!!!

Happy crafting, my friends!!! I can’t wait to see pictures of your popsicle stick apple frames! You can always tag us on Facebook or Instagram for easy sharing! #gluedtomycrafts

Craft Stick Apple Picture Frame - Kid Craft

Channel your child’s inner artist and help them create a beautiful apple picture frame with craft sticks!

Craft Supplies:

  • Jumbo Popsicle Sticks
  • School Glue
  • Red or Green Craft Paint
  • Paint Brushes
  • Scissors
  • Brown Cardstock Paper
  • Green Cardstock Paper
  • 4×6″ Color Picture

Directions:

  • First assemble the base of your apple frame by gluing FOUR popsicle sticks together in a square formation. This way you have an opening in the center for your picture.
  • Repeat for each apple picture frame you want to make.
  • Set it aside to let it dry a bit {instead of school glue, a hot glue gun works instantly to secure the sticks in place!}
  • Next have children paint the front of their popsicle stick shape completely red or green.
  • Set it aside.
  • Next cut out a small green leaf and brown stem from your cardstock.
  • Glue those to the front of the popsicle stick design in their designated spot.
  • Now let it all dry completely before securing your printed picture to the back of the craft stick frame. {you can do this step with school glue or tape.} You might have to trim your picture down a little to make it fit in the frame. Just use your scissors.
  • Once done decorating the apple frame and it’s completely dry, display it proudly for ALL to see.
  • You can either prop it on a shelf as is or hot glue ribbon and/or magnets to the back!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
