You've Been EGGED! - A Fun Easter Gift Idea For Your Neighbors

Easter Gift Idea For Your Neighbors

Have you ever been “booed” at Halloween?!

No… not off the stage or in a mean spirited way {silly!} I mean in a fun secret Santa kinda way, leading up to Halloween night.

The Halloween “booed” tradition is when friends, family and neighbors leave unsuspected gifts on someone’s doorstep or yard {usually along with a clever poem and typically it’s incognito} and then the lucky receiver is expected to pay it forward in a similar fashion, the same way, to another person in the neighborhood. It’s just a fun way to spread some holiday cheer during the season. Not really sure how it all started but I first learned about it about ten years ago, when someone left a gift basket on our doorstep. Since then, I’ve been hooked!

So anyways… now that you know a little bit more about the Halloween tradition, let’s talk about today’s post! This printable version is for EASTER!

You've Been EGGED! Fun Easter Gift Idea

Recently I created a printable that says “you’ve been EGGED!”

The concept is VERY similar to the Halloween boo’ed tradition but with plastic Easter eggs hidden in the lucky receivers yard instead.

To start this tradition in your neighborhood, all you would have to do is download our free provided file below, print it out on your home printer, trim it out, laminate and when you are ready to “spread some Easter cheer” simply tape the egg printable to someone’s door & scatter some filled plastic eggs throughout their yard, for them to find.

So what do you think? Doesn’t this idea sound fun? Well… what are you waiting for? Easter will be here before you know it, so you better get to “egging” someone today!

Find the free printable and some helpful tips to get you started, below! Happy “gifting” and spreading some cheer this Easter season!

You’ve Been Egged Details:

The “You’ve Been Egged” printable – you can grab the free file from our landing page. Then print it in color on some simple white cardstock paper, from the comfort of your home printer. Print as many as you like but please only use it for personal use.

Then when ready, use basic paper scissors to trim out the egg shape in the printable. If desired, laminate it so the lucky receiver can reuse it and spread some cheer to the next person.

I left a blank spot on the egg so you can write how many “eggs” you hid throughout their yard, this way, no one will miss a single one.

On the thought of laminating the egg printable, maybe everyone can reuse the plastic eggs from the first person, as well. So if person “A” gets egged, they would collect their eggs, refill them with new items and then they would egg person “B” with the same laminated printable and eggs. Then so on and so on, until everyone in the neighborhood has been EGGED. Just a thought!

What can go in the plastic eggs? You can fill your plastic eggs with pretty much anything and everything. Dollar Tree or the Target Dollar Spot is a great place to stock up on inexpensive items. Oriental Trading is also great for bulk items.

A lot of stores these days also have various sized plastic eggs, so honestly the possibilities are endless on what to “gift!” I’ve even seen plastic eggs that are as large as a stuffed animal. So please don’t feel limited to small trinkets and candy only.

Also on that note, don’t overthink it! I’m sure the lucky receiver would be happy with some delicious chocolate or a handful of jelly beans. Remember – it’s the thought that counts! You could even skip the materialistic stuff and include handwritten jokes, quotes, feel good messages etc. Maybe even turn each egg into “clues” for a treasure hunt that leads to a BIG prize!

A few gift ideas to include in your plastic eggs:

  • Small Candy or Dessert Treats
  • Easter Themed Jewelry
  • Hair Accessories
  • Small Toys from Dollar Tree or Target Dollar Spot
  • Easter Stickers
  • Craft Supplies
  • Notepads or Small Coloring Books
  • Small Pens or Crayons
  • Playdough
  • Slime
  • Gift Cards
  • Loose Change or Dollar Bills
  • Theme Park Passes or Certificates
  • Movie Tickets or Money For The Concession Stand
  • Lego Pieces that all go together to form something
  • Puzzle Pieces that will go together to form something
  • Travel Sized Toiletries
  • Soap or Sugar Scrub
  • Bubble Bath Items
  • Nail Polish
  • Small Makeup Items
  • For Adults – Small Bottles of Alcohol
  • Tea Bags
  • Instant Coffee/K-Cups
  • Spice Mixes
  • Kool-aid or Drink Powder Packages
  • Handwritten Jokes
  • Messages for a Treasure Hunt
  • Handwritten Coupon Book Ideas – like free babysitting, one hug, etc.
  • Redbox or Vudu Movie Codes
  • Sidewalk Chalk
  • Bubbles
  • Travel Sized or Handmade Games
  • Small Kitchen Gadgets or Tools
  • Tealight Candles

What if I live in the middle of nowhere and I still really want to do this idea? How can I do that? – Take this tradition to your work place, do it indoors or even a mom playgroup location. If they don’t have a “yard” per say, maybe sprinkle some green crinkle paper on the ground and “hide” them that way. You can make your own rules as you go. Everyone likes getting surprises regardless of how it’s presented! Please don’t feel obligated to use my printable either! There are several other versions on Pinterest or you can hand-write something of your own!
