Homemade Oatmeal Playdough Recipe For Kids
We just LOVE homemade play dough in our house. Seriously. I find myself making a new batch every week for lil man.
I usually make a good sized batch and then we drag out all the cookie cutters and baking utensils from the kitchen. It’s just good ole’ fun on our dining room table when the playdough comes out.
Seems like all generations like the mold-able creation. With the fun right at your fingertips, adults can even play along side their children as they let their imagination go wild. From store bought to homemade recipes {many of which have been shared on the blog already} everyone has their favorite type when it comes to playdough.
Well today I’m adding another favorite homemade recipe of mine to the blog archives. This Oatmeal Playdough recipe doesn’t require cooking, is super easy and is even edible, which makes it safe for kids who like to put things in their mouth {although it doesn’t taste very good!} It has a different texture than regular playdough but I think it’s a nice change of pace. With the texture of the oatmeal, it actually feels like bread dough {which I think is pretty cool for little aspiring baker’s to play with!}

Yes and no, if they were to put it in their mouth, by accident, no it’s not toxic in small amounts because it’s just flour & tons of oatmeal. However, it should not be purposely eaten if that makes sense. Although I feel like that 6 month age range is too young to be playing with this since it can pose a choking hazard.

is this edible. I work at a childcare center and feel this would be great for sensory building in the 6months to 12 yrs

Hi Kathy – since you aren’t cooking the mixture, either/or will work for this playdough.

Is it Old Fashion or Quick/rolled Oats in the Playdough?
