"H" is for Hibernation Bear Cave Craft

Popsicle Stick Hibernation Craft

The letter “H” is for “hibernation” and with winter knocking at our doorsteps, this popsicle stick bear cave craft is the PERFECT ABC art project to reinforce that idea! Plus it goes along perfectly with the book “Bear Snores On” by Karma Wilson, making it an even better story time activity!!!

Bear’s cave fills with animal friends as he sleeps in this classic book from New York Times bestselling team of Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman.

In a cave in the woods,
in his deep, dark lair,
through the long, cold winter
sleeps a great brown bear.

One by one, a whole host of different animals and birds find their way out of the cold and into Bear’s cave to warm up. But even after the tea has been brewed and the corn has been popped, Bear just snores on!

See what happens when he finally wakes up and finds his cave full of uninvited guests—all of them having a party without him!

This Popsicle Stick Hibernation kid craft idea has a winter theme, as well as being a great way to “teach” the letter H in your classroom studies. Children can decorate their bear’s cave however they want and with whatever you might have on hand. Think raffia, decorative leaves, cotton balls etc. Sound super fun and doable – right?!

So now let’s grab our craft supplies and get to the step-by-step tutorial below! Happy crafting, my friends!! Don’t forget to share pictures with us on Facebook! I can’t wait to see your craft stick bear caves in action! #gluedtomycrafts

Directions:

  • First have children glue their three popsicle sticks in an “H” design in the center of a single sheet of cardstock {we used black for ours} This will be the start of the bear’s cave.
  • Now they are ready to add their “cave” embellishments like raffia, sticks, leaves etc. Really make it nice and warm for the bear! You could even add things like cotton balls for “snow” to set the winter scene.
  • To finish off the Hibernation Craft – help your child cut out one of the bear shapes from our free printable and have them glue it to the center of the craft.
  • When done decorating the paper craft, set it aside to let it dry completely, before displaying proudly!!!
