Hot Chocolate Suncatcher Craft Idea

This blog will guide you through creating a hot chocolate-inspired suncatcher with your kids, step by step. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just looking for a simple activity to beat the chill, this craft is perfect for kids of all ages. Let’s get started!

Craft Supplies:

Before starting, gather the following supplies. Most of these can be found in your local craft store or easily substituted with items at home.

  • Cup Printable – on our landing page
  • White Cardstock Paper
  • Craft Scissors
  • Clear Contact Paper
  • Brown or White Tissue Paper
  • Loose Craft Glitter
  • Candy Stickers {Hobby Lobby}

Directions:

Once you have your materials ready, you’re all set to create this winter masterpiece.

  • First print out the FREE cup printable listed above. You will want one printable, per hot chocolate cup craft.
  • Grab your scissors and the cup printable. Trim out the shape, as well as the TWO rectangular shapes inside the cup. Discard excess paper. Set aside.
  • Now grab your clear contact paper. Cut out TWO pieces that are bigger than the cup cutout.
  • Remove the backing from one piece of contact paper. Lay it on a flat surface. Place the coffee cup cutout, face down, on the contact paper.
  • Next decorate the inside of their hot cocoa cup however you like. They can tons of glitter and add white, brown or a mixture of both tissue paper colors!
  • Once you are done creating the contents, grab the second piece of contact paper.
  • Peel off the backing and place it on top of the other piece of contact paper, moving your hand around to “squish” everything together.
  • To finish off the Stained Glass Hot Chocolate Cup craft, use your scissors to trim out the cup/remove the excess contact paper.
  • Add a peppermint candy sticker in the center/on the coffee sleeve, to tie it together.
  • Then display proudly on a window with tape!!!

Craft Activity Safety Guidelines:

Always Ensure Adult Supervision - Young children should be supervised at all times when engaging in craft activities. This is essential to keep them safe and ensure materials are used correctly. Use Age-Appropriate Supplies - Choose craft supplies that are suitable for your child’s age. Check labels for recommendations and avoid items with small parts or sharp edges for younger children. Modify as Needed - Feel free to adapt materials or steps to meet your child's abilities and safety needs. For example, substitute scissors with safety scissors if necessary. Keep an Eye on Allergies - Be mindful of potential allergens in craft materials like glue, paint, or certain fabrics. Opt for non-toxic and hypoallergenic options whenever possible. Organize and Secure Supplies - Keep all craft tools and materials organized. Store sharp objects, small parts, and potentially hazardous items out of reach when not in use. Following these guidelines will ensure that crafts remain fun, creative, and, most importantly, safe for everyone involved!
