Paper Plate Valentine’s Day Boat Craft Idea
Hi friends! If you are STILL looking for an easy heart shaped art project idea to keep the kids busy in honor of the upcoming “lovestruck” holiday – look no further because I have another awesome kid friendly Valentine’s Day craft tutorial for you below! I’m hoping after reading this very post, you will want to “sail” away with us and recreate it in your home as well!
With our latest and greatest paper and heart doily love boat craft, all you need is a small paper plate, a few drops of craft paint, paper doilies and pieces of cardstock paper to build it within minutes. And let’s face it – it’s really basic stuff you probably have on hand already so it’s just a matter of pulling it out & getting to work.
Not to mention, the steps that you will find in our tutorial are also super easy and perfect for even the youngest little crafter to “build” their very own boat with the help of an adult!
On that note, you could even just set up the framework for them on their work space {lay out the different materials in bowls but have the paper plate boat already put together} and let their creativity go wild while they add craft glitter, pom poms and even faux feathers to really make their paper boat stand out from the crowd.
The possibilities are endless on this one and I hope you “float” away into an awesome craft adventure, with the help of Glued To My Crafts today!
So my friends… are you ready to tackle this Valentine’s Day boat craft this afternoon? Well then, you can find ALL the details you need to know, in the full tutorial below. Happy crafting!

- Small Paper Heart Doilies
- Large Heart Stickers
- Craft Scissors
- Brown Craft Paint
- Foam Paint Brush
- Brown Cardstock Paper
- White Cardstock Paper
- Black Sharpie Marker
- School Glue

Directions:
- First things first for this craft – cut your paper plate in half. Straight up the center to make TWO equal pieces.
- Reserve one half for this love boat craft {or use both if you like to make TWO sailboats!}
- Next grab your brown craft paint and foam paint brush.
- Put a small amount of paint on the paper plate half and paint it completely brown.
- When done painting, set it aside to allow it to dry a bit.
- Next up – grab all your cardstock paper and scissors again.
- Out of the white – cut out THREE, small circles for the windows on the boat.
- Use the Sharpie marker to draw on lines to make them each to give them some dimension.
- Now, out of the brown cardstock paper, cut out a long, thin rectangle piece for the center of the boat.
- Go ahead and take your paper heart doily and staple it to the brown piece to make the “sail” of the boat.
- Next up – decorate your flag with stickers and/or other embellishments.
- Finally – to finish the Paper Plate Love Boat craft – simply staple and/or glue all your cardstock pieces to the painted paper plate piece. Ultimately the flag will go in the center, while the windows on the plate.
- And that’s a wrap! It’s now time to display it proudly for ALL to see this Valentine’s Day holiday. Clearly, this paper and heart doily boat is worth showing off on the fridge!
